Personally, I would respect a presidential candidate more if they said that any decision to attack Iran's nuclear facilities would be made by them in consultation with their national security team, rather than just giving a free pass to Israel to do as they please.

I don't like Mitt Romney's rhetoric and I don't like his approach. There has to be some conditionality to any support of an Israeli attack on Iran, but Romney doesn't provide any.
Romney has stated repeatedly that he doesn't want to be critical of our foreign policy while he is traveling abroad. I don't really have a pet peeve about that. I would not jump down his throat for being critical of some policies. But his rhetoric goes beyond criticism to actually undermining our foreign policy towards Iran. We are trying to prevent a war and Romney is urging Israel to start one.
I think that is dangerous and irresponsible and it violates his pledge to not criticize our foreign policy while he is abroad.
I also think it makes him look weak, as though he's willing to play the role of Tony Blair to Netanyahu's George W. Bush. Is Romney a poodle?

Drones notwithstanding, all authentic peace supporters SHOULD be supporting President Obama's re-election.

(92,492 posts)the biggest factor is it would destroy this country because the idiots would even increase military spending more, and that would destroy us, just like it did the Soviet Union

As long as it's outside Romney's little world, he is scared.

(53,661 posts)Wars transform societies, stifle dissent, kill the young and old, devastate the environment of the world and the human spirit and still we support them.
BTW, that's a generic 'we,' there. Will Americans seeking the quick buck continue to support this, out of pride, fear or greed?
The world is waiting to see what America will do. What we do in this election will determine not only our fate, but the lives of millions of other people. And I'd say if Romney gets in, there will no longer be anything recognizable left here. We're just pawns on his chessboard. His class is eager and ready.

and this would not be a short in and out war either.

(24,452 posts)-for all of the ease of invading it and overthrowing Saddam's regime- still wound up being an 8+ year "project". I can't even possibly imagine how a war with Iran would play out. At best, a strike would set them back a bit- and make them mad as hornets at us and leading to counterstrikes and retaliation against us in various ways. Stopping their nuclear ambitions entirely would likely involve overthrowing their regime completely and helping install a US-friendly government in Tehran would require a herculean effort to achieve- and one which I don't honestly think anybody here in the US has the stomach for. Invading Iraq wasn't a "cakewalk" and Iran sure as heck wouldn't be.

(24,452 posts)Anything he did in response would anger the left as well. In short, he'd be stuck in a no-win situation, politically.
