2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumList of things that Romney is going to have a hard time with during the rest of the campaign:
1.) Bain Capital (offshoring, outsourcing, when was he there?)
2.) Olympics (London trip 'nuff said)
3.) 1-term Governorship of Massachusetts (Romneycare)
4.) "Obamacare" (Romneycare)
5.) National security leaks (disclosing his meeting with Mi6)
6.) Transparency/Accountability (taxes, hard drives)
What's left by now that he can attack President Obama (or sell himself) with without embarrassing himself/calling *unnecessary* attention to his own "issues"?

2. His propensity to lie about everything.
3. His flip-flops and terrible shifting positions.

(2,307 posts)They are really good at circling the wagons.
As another DUer said; Republicans like to win, Democrats like to be right.
Changing horses at this point, no matter how lame the horse is may not be something they are willing to do.
It will be interesting never the less. Either the implosion or the walking on pins and needles.

(12,254 posts)they do care about maintaining their hold on the House and picking up seats in the Senate. Letting Mitt run may just be a tactic to get him out of politics forever.

(2,307 posts)but don't tell some of the right-wing-nuts I live around. They think Romney is the 4th person in the Quadity (it use to be the Trinity, you know Father, Son, Holy Ghost).
What is odd is 4 years ago these same nut-jobs were talking how they didn't want a Cultist to be president, even back in the primaries many were talking that way. These people hate President Obama so much they are turning their backs on their religious beliefs instead of voting for Obama.

(12,254 posts)that I live in a blue state and blue town and neighborhood. We protested against the war in Iraq on a street corner and would get at least 30 thumbs up to every bird. The only prattle about the Quadity (:rofl I hear comes from the folks back home in OK. If I were Mitt, I wouldn't trust those fundie types to go out and cast ballots for a Mormon. I suppose it will depend on how motivated they are to vote against Obama. The ones in your area sounds all pumped up with hate, so maybe some church needs to lose its tax-exempt status.

Bailed out by federal funding.
Outsourced uniforms to Burma.
Olympic pins made in Romney's image - made in China.
Romney told Olympians they didn't get there on their own.
Despite promising transparency most records are destroyed or unavailable.

(25,699 posts)Romney Goes to Israel... Either it's going to piss Israel off, or he's going to piss off Israel's neighbors. Guaranteed. Hell, it's possible he could do both. It's not a hard visit to do, but he's going to let his ego take charge and he'll want to do something "transformative," try to build a "special rapport" or something, and the whole thing will blow up in his face.
It will be gloriously bad comedy.

(305 posts)who has exceeded their expectations, Hillary or Obama? and in retrospect who would have made a better President?
I say Hillary on both questions.

(24,437 posts)It's been over for 3-4 years and there was no primary challenge this year from Hillary and she will be leaving her post sometime after this next election and will not running for public office again. Sorry to disappoint you and it's impossible to prove a counterfactual. She probably would have made a good President but the Democratic primary voters chose Barack Obama in 2008, he won the GE, and we are sticking with him this year. This year the choice is Barack Obama or Mitt Romney. End of story.

(1,183 posts)The Debate(s). Obama is a good speaker, and is able to engage an audience on an emotional level, he connects with people. Listening to Romney is like listening to your boss talk, You know he is full of shit, but you have to stand there and nod your head because he signs your paycheck. He talks down to you because he thinks he is better than you.
I hope Obama wipes the floor with that asshole.
