Why was Romney so determined to vote for Scott Brown in 2010?

Was that his method of pissing on Teddy's grave? As former governor of Massachusetts, it made perfect sense for Romney to endorse and support Scott. Claiming to reside in his son's unfinished basement in order to vote for Scott makes no sense at all. It didn't change any other voter's choice. All it did was give Romney the satisfaction of voting for Brown.
