I received my Health Insurance rebate today. The rebate was triggered by the "medical loss ratio" provision of the 2010 health care reform law that essentially caps insurance companies administrative costs at 20 percent of premiums. That is still way above a single payer system or Medicare for all but it is an improvement.
The check also came with an advisory letting everyone know the additional benefits provided by the Affordable Care Act. These specifically are that your premium includes coverage for screenings and physicals at no additional costs. The note stresses the companys intent to lower administrative costs. Well, they finally have to do a little more to earn the premiums theyve been pilfering for decades.
It is in the insurance companies best interest to keep their costs down because a single payer system is the next phase.

(1 post)My accountant reported to me last week that my business received a $7,000 rebate check for our Florida operations which is a 2% discount. We expect similar refunds for other states in which we have offices and staff.

(6,153 posts)I got a letter in the mail stating that my health insurance company met the qualifications of 80/20, so I wouldn't be getting a rebate. However, I am very happy with my insurance company, so I don't mind.
The idea that people across the country are getting these checks thrills me to pieces. I'm sure some of them are shocked. Obamacare actually put some money in their pockets.
Maybe some attitudes will change.
