Taylor is crushing Bernie on Facebook!
Facebook (FB) has over a billion accounts.
In Social Media, FB is king.
Remember when it was "news"
that Bernie got 1,000,000 "likes"?
When youre running for president in a social media world, people respond all at once, too: Bernie's page received just over 1,589,000 likes. At the time of this writing, the page has 1,589,000 likes. A Facebook spokesperson said the page started at some point, which means it began with zero likes.
Topping the page is a link to Bernie's official campaign website and the recording of his announcement, Bernie's announcement happened in Vermont a lovely state for travel.
https://www.facebook.com/senatorsanders/likes
The probability that those 1,589.000
were individual FB users is unlikely.
But we can't be sure.
Considering that he has hardly doubled
his "likes" since her launch seeds even more doubts.
He currently has just over a million.
Apparently, Bernie has plateaued!
He's out of steam and struggling
to stay relevant in social media.
And all the cool kids are on social media!
WHEREAS, Taylor is gaining
momentum and surging past Bernie.
Taylor has over 72 million FB "likes"...
and continues to climb, adding 235,000 LAST WEEK!
https://www.facebook.com/TaylorSwift
The little known singer from America
is surging past the her rival, Bernie,
who has universal name recognition.
Facebook is the worlds first real time and
ongoing "poll" of public consensus.
Which do you believe represent public opinion better,
a "weighted" poll of 1000 people, or 72 million "likes"
Bernie has plateaued, Taylor is surging ahead!

(62,325 posts)century those who dismissed his savvy use of social media were living in.
But in a way I hope they stay in the past.
Social Media is the new media.
The Corporate Media is old, it is irrelevant and isn't used by a majority of young people for news.
Polls do not poll young people who do not own land lines.
They too have not caught up with today's electorate.
Bernie like Obama, has long been a Social Media user so it's natural that he would know how to use it in his campaign.
Hillary otoh, and those around her, I know a few of them and tried to get them interested in this new media but they had no clue, thought it was just a 'toy' back then.
They are running an old campaign, depending on the old media mostly.
People are people, and unless you think that those are just robots on FB, Reddit, Twitter, Tumbler etc, that is where political activism takes place in the 21st Century.
It was social media that organized the 100,000 person event this week across the nation.
OWS would never have been heard of by most people, like the War Protests, had it not been for Social Media
It's just a fact, don't know why you are so upset over it or in denial about it.
Better to accept change.
I know I am not a robot nor are any of the people I now on Social Media, each and every one of them is a VOTER.
Agschmid
(28,749 posts)I thought I was supposed to be angry Hillary was avoiding the media? Now she is embracing it?
And yes social media is the way of the future but certainly it has it's faults, see Gawker.

(62,325 posts)or even the Candidates, they are about ISSUES.
The fact is that your OP appeared to be dismissing Social Media as a force in political campaigns. Period, I responded with some known facts, that is all. Nothing about YOU, or Me, just the reality of the world today wrt to the ISSUE you raised.
ALL Movie Stars and Entertainers and Sports Figures, TV stars, Reality Show stars etc have millions of followers.
So I have no idea what your OP was trying to say.
Sanders eg, was a virtual unknown to the entire country just two months ago.
Taylor Swift has been around for years. Even dead musicians are going to have huge followings.
You don't compare politicians to entertainers if you are trying to make a point.
You compare them to OTHER politicians.
If you want to make a point about Taylor Swift's popularity, then compare her to Lady Gaga, or some other COUNTRY MUSIC star.
The OP doesn't make sense, in its attempt to dismiss social media's impact on today's public.

(62,325 posts)But shouldn't discussions about entertainers be in the Lounge?
Anyhow:
Taylor Swift
Just so we keep the facts straight about this most serious topic, Swift moved from country to pop. So it all depends on what the meaning of the words 'she IS a country star' are. Is she still a country star? That is the burning question people are still asking.
So, is she running for the WH? What is the connection to Bernie here? He did try to sing some folk songs a long time ago, but he was awful, not a chance of him making it in that field.

(1,190 posts)Is that some people are so desperate to try and Trash Bernie that they will do/say anything, Good luck with that, And actually who gives a crap about Taylor Swift's "likes" as was pointed out earlier shes a " Rock star" not a politician and she's been on facebook for a long time. This is possibly the weakest post i've ever read on D.U.
JTFrog
(14,274 posts)The post that i believe you are referring to compared likes from two politicians pages and at least has some relevancy instead of just inane comparisons of as one put it "apples and oranges"
Agschmid
(28,749 posts)Comparing actual polling data to Facebook likes is also Apples and Oranges. Do present it as anything else is rediculous.

(36,914 posts)If you feel that disruptive flamebait threads are violating your interpretation of community standards, then you have every right to alert on it. If not, then just trash the thread. Starting another flamebait/disruptive meta/copy-cat thread is not productive.

Bernie wins the primary. He faces and beats Donald Trump in the most bizarre election in US history, with 90 percent turnout from 18-24s to the tune of Tay's monster smash hit "2016 Feel the Bern!"
Hey it could happen.
