2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWhy Bernie Sanders Is The Millennials' President
From a short article in an online magazine in Central Michigan:
Millennials, born somewhere between late 1980s and early 2000s, have reached a tipping point in society. As of this year we outnumber the baby boomers, meaning if we unite for a cause, we should get what we want. The 2016 presidential election is approaching, and whoever wins will be able to elect several supreme court members who will serve a lifetime position.
...
Bernie Sanders has a long track record of sticking up for the American people. His ideas are refreshing and what we need to restore our country to where it should be, the best in the world. He's fighting for all of the issues that us millennials have been handed. This election is about more than democrat or republican, it's about caring for our own and improving the quality of life in America.

Seems like pretty compelling stuff for a generation of new voters to consider. I must wonder if pieces like this are spontaneously written and published as unsolicited "grassroots" opinion?
Surely the Sanders campaign isn't big or organized enough to be sponsoring such efforts.
What do you think?

(5,614 posts)As you say, the campaign doesn't seem big enough or organized enough to expend effort on things like this, officially. That doesn't mean there aren't hundreds, maybe thousands of motivated individuals who can write things like this on their own.
I mean, anyone who doesn't spend their life listening to Fox News is probably smart enough to produce a coherent piece.

These kids have a lot at stake. And they are poed that the "adults" have trashed the planet and the economy.

(1,469 posts)is to say they like and listen to their music, drink their most popular brand of beer, or participate in whatever 'craze' tends to be of that age group, and better yet, BE of that age group. But the reality is quite different - they will vote for someone who understands the way in which they're getting 'stuck' (and the truth is, almost all politicians understand it), and say what they will do about it
and they couldn't care less what age that candidate is

(1 post)Hi! My name is Dana Eble (as you can see by my username) and I'm actually the author of this article!
First, I'm thrilled that it's being shared all around so thank you for posting!
Second, I'm a junior at Central Michigan University and a writer for The Odyssey Online, which is an unpaid position (but, if my article gets the most amount of shares a week I get $20). I get free range of topics to write about, if you go to my profile on The Odyssey you'll see that I wrote an article about sorority life and about dogs (because I really love dogs). I am not part of Bernie Sanders staff and I was not paid or told to write this article by anyone. I was just tired of writing topics about fluff and decided to do something that I felt actually mattered. It makes me kinda happy that you think the article is convincing enough to be from someone important though!
I spent a lot of time writing that article and when it was online I sent it to a bunch of Bernie Sanders facebook pages and twitter accounts, which is probably where you saw it.
Again, I'm really glad you liked the article, I hope I could clear some things up for you!
