What does a candidate do when a private group does fund raising

Let's say a PAC raises money for Bernie and that PAC is fined for financial filing irregularities. And we have documentation that Bernie doesn't want to work with PACS. Do we hold that fundraising against Bernie?

What if we decide that Bernie cannot control who fund raises so it's actually a non issue, but we decide that Hillary is absolutely in bed with her fund raisers. Could that possibly be hypocritical?

I think you are conflating PACS and Super PACS. They are governed by different rules. n/t FSogol Jul 2015 #7

I think these issues or incidents need to be looked at on a case by case basis. Of course candidates aren't able to control everything their supporters are doing. But, after it is brought to their attention, they should be expected to respond by either giving the money to charity or making a statement about not agreeing with their actions or something. I think that's fair. I also think candidates should be clear about what they would like their supporters to be doing. My understanding is that Sanders has made it clear he doesn't want people forming super-pacs on his behalf and I don't think anyone has. In contrast, Clinton has made it clear that her strategy is to mirror what the republicans are doing as far as fundraising and so that is what her supporters are doing.

on as his field director.

Documents obtained by the Vermont Press Bureau show that the Progressive Voters of America Leadership PAC, a so-called leadership committee that current and former members of Congress are allowed to create, paid about $8,000 in administrative fines in May. The FEC levies fines when a committee fails to file required reports or files them late.

The fines are expected to be made public by the FEC next week.

The Burlington-based committee’s treasurer, Phil Fiermonte, a longtime Sanders aide and currently the field director for Sanders’ presidential campaign, received a letter from the FEC in December warning that the committee may have failed to file required financial reports.

Though I believe the promise was not to take money from Super PACs, but it is an empty promise since candidates are prohibited by law from doing so.

Technically known as independent expenditure-only committees, Super may raise unlimited sums of money from corporations, unions, associations and individuals, then spend unlimited sums to overtly advocate for or against political candidates. Super must, however, report their donors to the Federal Election Commission on a monthly or quarterly basis -- the Super choice -- as a traditional PAC would. Unlike traditional , Super are prohibited from donating money directly to political candidates.
