___Martin O'Malley, the former Baltimore Mayor and Maryland's chief executive, brought a mix of passion and pathos...
His introduction was met with a standing ovation from his own section, mostly in the back of the hall. By the time he was finished, many tables that had stood for Clinton were on their feet for him.
...ticking off a list of progressive litmus tests he had passed.
On the list were drug treatment programs established, the state's minimum wage hiked, resounding entrepreneurship statistics, an assault weapons ban, nation-leading public schools, the adoption of a DREAM Act law that predated President Obama's own executive actions preventing deportations for millions, a four-year college tuition freeze, and 'drivers licenses for new American immigrants.'
By the time he demanded a $15.00/hour minimum wage from coast to coast, people were listening.
This was a different O'Malley, a man confident of his bona fides...

Martin O'Malley forcefully called for a $15 minimum wage Friday at the Iowa Democratic Party's Hall of Fame Celebration and told Iowans he'd break up "too big to fail" banks as president.
"There is a growing injustice in our country and economic inequality in our country that threatens to tear us apart," he said. "Powerful, wealthy special interests have used our government to create in our own country an economy that is leaving a majority of our people behind."
QUOTE: "Tell me how it is that not a single Wall Street executive was ever convicted for a single crime related to the 2008 meltdown?" he asked the crowd. "What have we come to as a nation that you can get pulled over for a broken taillight, but if you wreck the nation's economy you are untouchable?"
BEST MOMENT: O'Malley joined Hillary Clinton in mocking Republican businessman Donald Trump's bid for the presidency. Trump should run for president of the know-nothing party of the 1800s, he said.
AUDIENCE REACTION: Audience members chanted "O'Malley" as he took the stage. He received several standing ovations, including for his remarks on moving America toward an electric grid fully powered on renewable fuels by 2050.

(86,016 posts)...I'm going to try and be objective. Good luck with that, right? No, really...I want to see if I get that feeling when I hear him speak...the moment when you just *know*.
Okay, coffee's in front of me and I've already devoured my snack...contact!

(32,034 posts)Are going to make me double down. Actions big tree - actions.
He's acted. And - he's giving us detailed plans. There's a poll in the AfAm group I responded to this morning. We all have to create an "opening" sentence for our passion in this campaign - and show the What Can Be - and what he's done.
Mine - Climate Change is an opportunity to change our economy for the better with everyone included in earning a living wage.
bigtree
(86,016 posts)...but I think O'Malley recognizes and appreciates this opportunity to make real differences on the issues he advocates. He's talking the talk, and 'wonking' the walk!
Thanks for responding, JustAnotherGen!

(32,034 posts)And I kind of think O'Malley has a little bit of the cynic in him too.

(22,881 posts)is making headway in the Iowa base.. I am not throwing brick bats at anyone..but what counts in Iowa is how he is doing with us.. how he is getting our attention.. and he is doing good.. GREAT JOB to the O'Malley team..
bigtree
(86,016 posts)...I'd like him to feel as encouraged as he's made me feel watching how he's responded to this campaign with substance and heart. it's completely representative of the way he responded to progressive causes in my state. He's a people's politician and he wears his big heart on his sleeve.
Thanks for responding, Peacetrain!
Peacetrain
(22,881 posts)is pretty darned liberal aka progressive.. but also pragmatic... and they fight tooth and nail in the caucuses.. no just going into a booth and pulling a lever.. you have to go with passion to sit there for two hours and fight it out over who will take at least 15% ... and he is getting traction..

(52,173 posts)I frankly wasn't expecting a well delivered speech from him but was pleasantly surprised. None of our candidates are Obama or Bill Clinton in that regard but he gave the best delivered speech of the night with Hillary and Bernie second. Webb and Chaffee were pretty mediocre. I like O'Malley's domestic record.
