César Vargas: to Congressman Luis Gutierrez: Bernie Sanders Is More Pro-Latino Than You

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/casar-vargas/open-letter-to-congressma_2_b_7762612.html

I guess all Latinos are just like "the socialist" Bernie Sanders because we seem to care about the same things he's championing for. Who would have thought? You certainly did not. Do you really speak for your constituents, the Latino community, or are you speaking for yourself? Trying to keep that comfy spot, huh?

Members of the Latino Delegation would also like to know why did you endorse Rahm Emanuel to be the mayor of Chicago instead of our brother Jesús "Chuy" García?

Congressman Luis Gutierrez, Latinos send their regards: If you're not with Bernie, "partner, you ain't got no wins in mi casa."

He doesn't seem to be very influential. Looks like he has few followers.

He's no Jorge Ramos.

Been following him for quite a while as he was rec't to me by some of my Latino co-workers. And of course, he is just one of many Latinos who are working for Bernie now and every little bit helps. Bernie will get that vote, but it will take time for people to know who he is, and actually I'm surprised that Vargas needed to be contacted by someone else to find out about Bernie.

All that means is we have to work harder, which I for one, began doing today and am happy to report that Bernie now has two more Latino supporters, he's so easy to campaign for.

Eva Longoria concurs: "Immigration is not the top issue for Latinos. Latinos are like every other American - economy, jobs, healthcare, education."

Indeed, Eva. Indeed.

Hasn't Camp Windsock been shitting on sanders for talking about "economy, jobs, healthcare, education," with the specific claim that talking about this means he isn't paying attention to the cares of people of color?

Which way is it going to go?

which is fine with me. But there is no doubt that they think they have 'something' when in fact it's fun watching them knock themselves out over this one talking point, then waiting to see what they do when what happened with Bernie's 3% with ALL Americans, jumped to nearly 25% once the campaign got going, as will and is happening with minorities as THEY get to know him.

I just like watching the moving goal posts. It's a fascinating passtime. Meanwhile I am busy making sure people DO get to know Sanders and it's the easiest thing to do, because Bernie has the record to prove all of them WRONG, no matter how much money they pay for their 'opposition research'.

The pain of watching families being torn appart is what make it the top issue for many. Watching children cry over their dads or moms who were deported...it's just too much.

But I guess people like Eva, who doesn't have to worry about these things, can afford to say that it is not a top issue. I mean if it doesn't affect her....

The pain of families being torn apart is something I witnessed regularly for 5 years. And outreach proved to be frustrating when confronted by those Latino/a immigrants who gained their legal status through 'proper' status and had little or no empathy for those who are seeking a path to legal recognition through a "back door".

It's complicated.

But I don't want to believe that most are this heartless.

Cesar Vargas -is a nationally recognized leader and innovator at the forefront of the groundbreaking DREAM movement. Cesar brings a unique and varied government and political background that extends to the three branches of our government including experience in Congress, Kings County’s District Attorney Office, and the New York State Supreme Court. However, the opportunity to work with exceptional political and community activists is what brings real vigor to his experience. Cesar graduated with honors from the philosophy program at St. Francis College. A recent law school graduate, Cesar Vargas, quickly learned that his commitment to serve his community reaches far beyond the courtroom as he fights for others like him to be admitted as licensed lawyers. From New York to Washington D.C, he has actively been involved in the fight for the DREAM Act and immigration reform. In fact, he was one of the leading advocate during the 2010 lame duck session to push for the DREAM Act. Cesar was also the original drafter and advocate of a novel piece of legislation in New York State
