O'Malley: Immigration plan “first and the best of any Democratic candidate, if I do say so myself.”

O’Malley met with Latino immigration reform advocates during an event in the steamy basement of Las Americas -Trinity United Methodist Church. O’Malley said of his reform plan that it is “The first and the best of any Democratic candidate if I do say so myself.”

He pushed his plan that would establish a new federal agency to oversee immigration reform, expand the Affordable Care Act and close detention facilities. O’Malley said he would expand use of executive action, further than President Obama has, to allow more undocumented immigrants to stay legally in the country. He said he wants parents of the so-called DREAMers, to benefit from that executive action.

How many of the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants should benefit from O’Malley’s executive action? O’Malley said, “I would extend executive action to cover as many as possible, the exception being those involved in the public safety imperative. Need to deport somebody because of threat to public safety.”

Democratic candidate Martin O’Malley says if he’s elected president, he’d “extend” executive orders and shield the parents of the so-called “DREAMers” that President Obama already has protected from deportation.
Martin O'Malley's round-table discussion on immigration reform.

“To keep more families from having to be broken up,” O’Malley said this afternoon in Des Moines.

“I have laid out what I do believe is the most comprehensive policy on comprehensive immigration reform of any candidate certainly in the Democratic field,” O’Malley said.

According to O’Malley, too many people are “living in the shadows” because it takes too long to navigate the process to gain legal status or citizenship.

“I believe that immigration reform is one of the things that we must do in order to get wages to go up again,” O’Malley said. “One of the big drags that you can have on wages is to have an underground economy.”

Full house in Ottumwa, IA ready to talk immigration & new leadership!

Democratic presidential candidate Martin O'Malley made his way to Ottumwa, Iowa Thursday evening.

The former Maryland governor spoke to a crowd of about 50 people, giving them background on the work he did while in office.

The democratic presidential candidate said he believes the border needs protected and there should be comprehensive immigration reform.

"We have eleven million people now in our country who are caught in the no man's land and it's not good for our economy, it's not good for wages," said presidential candidate Martin O'Malley. "In order to get wages to go up we need to life eleven million people out of the shadows, put them on the books of an open economy and so I am very much in favor of immigration reform."

O'Malley believe voters are looking for new leadership and he believes he's the better candidate because he says he's had 15 years of executive experience getting things done.
