The narrative that he can't win is astonishing, because he is proving every day that he can!

(17,796 posts)like we have no chance. This is too important not to do everything we can.
Damn, I seem to be in a serious mood for some reason, probably tired. Have a great night.

(62,325 posts)or fearful of what the 'right' might have to say about his convictions regarding immigration.
He has consistently pointed out the huge contributions made by 'hard-working' immigrants, and has ATTACKED the corporate interests the EXPLOIT their illegal status in order to have a cheap labor force.
Sadly as has been the case so often when we have a good Rep in Congress, his colleagues did not have the guts many times to back him up.
And that is why we need to not just support Bernie, but to look for and support every Progressive Candidate running in the next election, those the DNC will not support in favor the Third Way/Corporate funded candidates, so that when he is in the WH, he has a Congress working WITH him.
Robbins
(5,066 posts)He has been saying same thing for years.
I loved seeing him saying those who employ illegals know full well they are illegal.
I love seeing how warmly he was received there.

(62,325 posts)workers do not support a 'path to citizenship' because they do not want to lose their cheap labor force.
I saw this in practice when I was helping a friend who owned a contracting business. Bidding on a contract abiding by the state laws, thanks to the Unions, required including the standard pay for Carpenters, Roofers etc.
We discovered that when a bid is based on standard wages, honest sub contractors would lose those bids while those known to employ AND exploit undocumented workers were far more likely to win those bids.
So I went to the main contractor when he called to say that the bid needed to come down, and told him the ONLY way to do that would be NOT to pay the required salaries, SS, etc for the workers. His response was 'do what you have to, don't tell me about it'. Iow, he made his millions by saving money on the state and federal contracts HE got, by looking the other way when undocumented workers made up the work force of his sub contractors and were very much exploited, with no rights when they did not get paid etc.
My friend got out of the business as he was not about to participate in the exploitation of people who were hard workers and deserved to be paid the same rate as any other worker.
Robbins
(5,066 posts)plenty of people knowly hire illegals for cheap labor, and few say anything about it.They would rather bash the illegals who work hard for little money but never deal with root of problem which is those who want to exploit illegals for cheap labor.

(62,325 posts)who HAVE the required paper work but who use undocumented workers. You see it a lot in the Hamptons eg. So IF there are any consequences, it is the contractor who will be held accountable, usually with a fine, and they can pretend they knew nothing!
And the construction business in NY is so bad that even American citizens often do not get paid what was agreed upon in contracts. But at least they have some legal recourse.
When undocumented workers don't get paid, there is nothing they can do. They have no protections against the unjust practices which make it possible to cheat them out of their pay.
Bernie has addressed this many times over the years. I remember, eg, after Katrina when contracts were handed out and workers thought at least they would be working for a while. Several contractors brought in undocumented workers instead. But they too were often cheated out of their pay. Yet, nothing is ever done about this awful system, while the wealthy continue to profit from it.

(22,271 posts)Not quite true. Quite a few Bernie supports here are not Democrats and I count myself among them. I was a Democrat for over 30 years but, as the saying goes, I didn't leave the Democratic Party, the Democratic Party left me.
I think we have to be ready for Bernie supporters to come from all political persuasions, backgrounds, races, religions, ages and socio-economic status.
