2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumTed Cruz to Announce Presidential Bid Monday
Wind up the clown car, here we go:
Cruz will launch a presidential bid outright rather than form an exploratory committee, said senior advisers with direct knowledge of his plans, who spoke on condition of anonymity because an official announcement had not been made yet. They say he is done exploring and is now ready to become the first Republican presidential candidate.
The senator is scheduled to speak Monday at a convocation ceremony at Liberty University in Virginia, where he is expected to declare his campaign for the presidency."

(12,041 posts)Don't get me wrong, I think the natural born citizen requirement is a relic of the past and I think any citizen should be allowed to run for President regardless of where they were born.
Having said that however, it was many of the same people who demanded to see Obama's birth certificate even well after it was firmly established that he was born in Hawaii that are now supporting a Canadian born candidate and those idiots deserve to have their hypocrisy called out.

(98 posts)I'm not one of them. I'm just saying there are some who believe there are questions. Is Ted Cruz Canadian? I don't know. I'm not an expert.

(12,041 posts)I really do think that part of the Constitution is a relic of the past, there is really no logical reason for it any more. If a person has lived here long enough to become a citizen then I think we should allow them to run for office and be judged on their merits, I would hope people would reject Arnold and Cruz because of their lack of merit however.

(45,251 posts)Then again, a Constitution is not supposed to be a laser.
I don't know if it's outdated, per se. By 1789, some families had been on these shores for 100 years or more. So, they knew the difference between someone who arrived on these shores yesterday, or 20 years ago or several generations ago. They settled on someone being born here as a signal of where the first loyalty is likely to lie.
I have a second cousin who got herself transferred to the US specifically so that she could become a citizen of the US--and she did so fairly quickly. Returned to her native land and votes absentee--Republican--in every Presidential election. Wouldn't want her eligible to be President.

(7,596 posts)Only two years into his first (and hopefully ONLY) elected office and already this schmuck thinks he's ready to be POTUS. What an egotistical douche.
I guess it doesn't really matter, though. This arrogant, crazy asswipe could serve for 30 years and he STILL wouldn't be remotely qualified to serve any White House position.
