Democrat Anne "Pinney" Beebe-Center, a former County Commissioner, won a special election tonight in a 4-way contest for the Rockland/Owl's Head area House seat. This came open when the incumbent Dem who won by just 135 votes in November abruptly resigned two months after her re-election and moved from the area.
The Republican from November ran again this time, and the GOP and their allies dumped in more money than the Dems. The Dem won with smart, targeted campaigning (turnout is everything in a special election) and with a narrative in opposition to Gov. LePage's TRICKLE-DOWN budget proposal which seeks to eliminate the income tax and replace it with higher sales and property taxes, a proposal that he never even mentioned during his re-election campaign. (People HATE this budget proposal, and we need to keep that PRESSURE on.)
This is a good one for the Dems. It tells us that we have a great shot a re-taking the State Senate in two years which the R's won in November, and it bodes well for having a very good cycle all around next time IF we keep the message focused, be STRONG, and campaign well.
What do Democrats stand for? Simple. NO TO TRICKLE-DOWN ECONOMICS AND AN ECONOMY THAT WORKS FOR EVERYONE, NOT JUST THE PRIVILEGED FEW.
(PS: The others in the race were a Green and a Libertarian. They didn't get much.)

(37,540 posts)Thanks for the post.....most of us understand that LePage is a buffoon in our State who doesn't represent the clear majority below Augusta.

(13,570 posts)rural folks are HATING it more and more and they stand to lose their revenue sharing but have no non-profits to tax.
The hospitals hate it, the forest rangers hate it, the real estate people hate it, the towns and cities hate it... We need to attend those
LePage tour stops as he tries to sell his snake oil and CHALLENGE him IN PUBLIC on his rotten TRICKLE-DOWN PIECE OF CRUD budget ideas fed to him by ALEC.

(37,540 posts)A split, we will start electing better candidates. Sadly, "more progressive"candidates keep getting morons like LePage elected.
