2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWhere do I send President Obama my congratulations and gratitude
for being such a serious, thoughtful, compassionate, bold, and timeless leader.
It's so stunning to me that it isn't seen universally.
I want him to know how strongly I support his actions and his presidency.

(9,688 posts)Watching Obama's speeches and press conferences on his recent European trip, I found myself with similar thoughts: how lucky we are to have such a thoughtful and fiercely intelligent and compassionate man as president right now, especially during the currently touchy/scary situation in Ukraine (and Syria. and Nigeria. And Iran. and and on and on.), not to mention the shootings and other horrors at home. I've been thrilled by his recent executive actions on pollution and climate change. And I've loved his firm response to the press, and to the Republicans, re Bergdahl and all the other faux-scandals du jour.
There is a wonderful clarity about him right now.
Thank you for the suggestion of sending him congratulations and expression of our gratitude. It's deserved, and I bet it's nice for him to know that there are people out there who appreciate what he is doing.
For those DUers who enjoy complaining that Obama doesn't measure up to whatever their ideals are -- I offer this cartoon from this week's New Yorker. Be grateful for this president and help this man get something done. Because, boy, this could be our last chance for a long time to move our country forward.

(24,798 posts)Thank you.
One of the things I so appreciate about President Obama is his strong core. He does NOT bend in the political winds. His support of our military men and women is unshakeable. Witness the fact action on the VA issue (now so much dust in the wind).
I find it laughable, the talking heads who say he was caught off-guard by the tumult over the prisoner swap.
This man is supremely intelligent and well-informed. He is also experienced and tested in the wicked ways of Washington DC.
President Obama is not the first - nor the last - great leader to be attacked and derided for his intelligence, compassion, and vision. In fact, I would maintain he continues in a fine tradition that includes a man named Jesus Christ, Lincoln, MLK Jr., Rosa Parks, Rachel Corrie and many, many more.
I hope I can share your wonderful post on my FB!

And you're right about the numbers of great people who have been derided for the very qualities that make them great.
Drives me NUTS, but it seems to a chronic human problem, alas.
