Federal Prisoner Gives Obama A Run For His Money In West Virginia, May Earn Delegates At Convention
Meet Keith Judd or as some call him, Inmate No. 11593-051. He is serving a 210-month sentence at the Beaumont Federal Correctional Institution in Texas for making threats at the University of New Mexico in 1999. Despite that bothersome obstacle, he qualified for the West Virginia Democratic primary ballot and is currently giving President Obama a run for his money, currently racking up 37% of the vote.

(14,093 posts)One of the most-repeated political tales here in WVa is the story of JFK's primary win in 1960.
It was conventional wisdom that a Catholic couldn't win a southern state, so Kennedy camped out here, campaigned hard and got to know the voters.
His win here proved the stereotype of W.Va. bigotry wrong, and the state has taken great pride in that for 50 years.
But today's mouth-breathing idiocy 100% destroyed that lesson and re-established this state as a place deserving to be the butt of the nation's jokes.
I can no longer get annoyed when MTV sends a hipster film crew here to make fun of the state with a pseudo-documentary like "The Whites of West Virginia." This place deserves to be mercilessly mocked at every turn.

(14,093 posts)so a lot of those "Democrats" are people who would otherwise register as Republicans.
They take part in the Democratic primary, because 9 times out of 10, the Democratic nominee will run unopposed or face token opposition in the fall. They want a say in picking the person who will most likely win in the fall anyway.
The primary is almost like a first edition of the general election here.

(12,041 posts)I don't know West Virginia law, but read about the fake Democrats on the ballot in the Wisconsin primaries that happened today. The Democrats would have kept them off the ballot if they could but the law says any qualified person can run under the banner of any party they hoose to run under and there is nothing the party can do to stop it. This is usually a good thing because you don't want the heads of the party choosing our candidate for us by eliminating the competition, but sometimes it does allow people to game the system and this is an example of that.

(31,706 posts)From what I read that's all that's needed to be placed on the ballot. No signatures...just the cash. Now how does someone in "the joint" come up with that type of coin and who filed for him...that's what I'd be curious to find out about.

(59,547 posts)should consider how they look to the rest of the country when nearly 40% of Democratic primary voters would rather vote for a convicted felon than a sitting black president.

(146 posts)they should worry about how they look? I'm quite sure they don't care. Big coal rules, and they perceive Obama's energy policies as a threat to their livelihood. How many times do we hear "anybody but Obama (or Bush!)"? So they carried it to an extreme. Oklahoma had an anti-abortion protester on the ballot pulling votes from Obama, and similar scenarios have occurred in Louisiana and Alabama. Before I go further, I should ask, are we dissing all of the states and their citizens who pull these "stunts" or just WV?

(12,041 posts)Republican dirty tricks, they are going to try to get this guy some delegates at the convention, I believe they did this in Oklahoma as well. I seem to remember hearing that anti-choice terrorist nut job Randall Terry won a delegate at the Democratic convention by getting a bunch of Republicans to cross over and vote for him.

(37,326 posts)While it is uncertain what amount of votes Mr. Judd will get it is not likely that he will earn any delegates to the national convention, Scarbro said Monday. No one filed to run as a national convention delegate to support him for president and he may not be eligible to serve anyway, since he is currently an inmate in a federal prison.

(62,444 posts)If he is:
1. Over 35 years old,
2. Born a US Citizen, and
3. 14 years a resident prior to now,
Then he is eligible to serve.
There is no disqualification for being a prison inmate or anything else.

(62,444 posts)Gee, you are a prisoner, and you are elected president...
Waddya think is the first thing you might think about doing.
But, in any event, there is no problem. Every president is moved into a secure federal facility. You think that President Obama, or any president, just comes and goes as he pleases?
I think the guy is used to being in a secure place with a lot of guards. And there is no problem with his eligibility.

"We" only have them around? Who is this we who allows them to exist?
Come on, this sounds just like the condescending arrogance of a freeper.
They have a pseudo-democrat Senator who will garner support from dems because he's a democrat (in name only) and republicans because he's really one of them. He poses more of a threat to Obama than a jailbird on the ballot.
