Related: About this forumPresident Obama to hold strategy session on judges Monday
President Obama is launching an aggressive new push to move more stalled judicial nominees through the Senate.
The president has invited 150 supporters from across the country concerned about the judicial vacancy rate to the White House on Monday for a forum and strategy session with administration officials, according to a copy of the invitation obtained by the Washington Times.
In the invite, the White House accused Republicans of subjecting consensus nominees to "unprecedented delays and filibusters."
"Half of all Americans over 130 million of us live in judicial districts or circuits that have a vacancy that would be filled today if this obstruction of judicial nominations would end," wrote Brad Jenkins, the associate director of the White House's Office of Public Engagement. "This unwarranted obstructionism, as you well know, is detrimental to our courts and the lives of millions of Americans."

The Republican obstruction of judicial nominees is 'one' of the many reasons of why we must TAKE BACK THE HOUSE in November!
It has been the GOPers in the HOUSE that have been objecting to 'adjournment agreements' prior to Senate breaks - therefore there haven't been any 'official recesses' in the Senate for a very long time. Which means President Obama's option of making judicial recess appointments has been blocked!

Advise and Consent is a Senate power, exclusively. BTW, it's the name of a good flick on the very topic.

(36,974 posts)3. I did not say the House could block appointments. They can block 'adjournment'
which they have been doing.
And where there is no agreed upon adjournment by 'both' the House and Senate then the Senate can 'not' go into recess.
And that means Obama can't make judicial recess appointments.
When the Senate has been going on breaks the past year or so they hold 'pro-forma sessions' every three days - because they say it is not an official recess without adjournment.
I hope that is more clear now
