(10,751 posts)...where we kept out for many years, but armed the mujahideen against the USSR occupiers... Seems to me we may be making a similar mistake in Syria if we arm "the rebels" there (whoever the hell they are; we don't seem to have a good handle on that at the moment).

Edit: and the problem is that we will knock those dominoes over if we go in, and, as we have shown so well in Iraq, we are not up to the job of setting things right after knocking them down.
