Goodbye 2016 Postmortem (Forum)

I wish that that you could have brought about sane discussions which would have served to heal old wounds and bring Democrats of all persuasions together, more united than ever before.

But predictably, you were use to tear off the scabs of those wounds inflicted by other Democrats so that they could bleed freely again.

I despair that we will ever again be able to field a Democratic nominee for President who will be supported enthusiastically by all Democrats and progressive independents. Apparently we will never learn that whether our nominee represents the far left or a more centralist view, he or she will be be infinitely better than the GOP's offering.

All this forum proved is that we have not yet learned the the painful lessons taught by the election of despicable human being as our President. If we cannot learn from this lesson, there is little hope for us. Apparently we we would rather fight among ourselves than win national elections and advance our progressive agendas.

So rest in peace 2016 Postmortem (Forum). I will not morn you once you are gone.

"on both sides people would say that..."

Much as many on both sides would reply with your own vague, somewhat irrelevant response.

I propose that we start a new forum for this purpose:

14. You and I and others played our parts in the primary wars part 2.

I am confident new leaders will emerge who can articulate a synthesis of the views promoted by Hilary and Bernie.

The problem is that I don't see key DUers giving up on maintaining the primary wars. It shift to proxy wars. Both sides have alternative sites where they can bash within party partisans and then come back here ready to pick a fight or retaliate.

Someday maybe.

19. Actually I hoping that existing leaders will bring us together

They would be best to take on that task because they already have the respect of those who need to moderate their disdain for those not in their camp.

I'm no leader, but in the next primary I intend to try not to take sides as much, to see the positive aspects of all candidates seeking the nomination and not get involved in the us verses them climate that seems to permeate DU during the primary cycle. Maybe in some small way I can be bridge builder rather than a bridge destroyer. Hopefully next time around the candidates will not be in such stark contracts to one another, which will make that attitude easier for me to adopt.

I am encouraged the fact that before I became involved in DU, I had no problem transferring my loyalties from Hillary to Barack without any problem. I contributed and worked for Hillary's campaign and then when she asked to, I contributed and worked for Barack's campaign without a concern to the contrary. I was surprised later that there was a huge rift between the advocates of the two candidates here on DU and some never fully got on board even after the general election. That's kind of sad when you think about it.

I think what I will have to do next time around is ignore the urge to retaliate when others attack my favorite candidate, and point out the positive attributes of both/all candidates.

20. I think you are spot on as well. I don't think the two statements are necessarily in conflict.

I like our current leadership. I do think some changes need to be made with respect to the DNC's operation. Our current leaders will be fostering the leadership of tomorrow. A lot can happen in four years.

16. There have been some very good discussions in this forum.

That said, I am glad to see it is going away. A lot of good will come from the unity that will happen as we join forces and fight Trump. That unity will bring about a stronger party. Some will continue to divide. They will be transparent.

I implore all to look locally during this time as we trash Trump and the republican party. Look at what offices will be up for election in the coming years in your area. Find someone you support and help them, get involved. I think some would be surprised how many positions locally we are qualified to run for.

18. The scumbag taking the oath tomorrow will accomplish what we could not:

Reviving and unifying the Democratic Party as a dominant political force in this put-upon, humiliated country.

He will leave us with no acceptable alternative.

22. yes, exactly-- that's why to some extent, moaning about Hillary was pointless, since

ultimately, assuming we ever get to vote for a Dem again, people are not going to be so picky about the candidate as long as they show some semblance of decency.
