‘This sh*t’s not funny’: Strategist explains that Trump is causing an ‘extinction event’ for the GOP

‘This sh*t’s not funny’: Strategist explains that Trump is causing an ‘extinction event’ for the GOP

-snip-

As if that weren’t enough, Republican strategist Matt Mackowiak on Thursday posted an epic tweetstorm describing the abject panic that has set in among Republicans, who now fear that they’ll suffer massive down-ballot losses if Trump stays on his current course.

“OK, this shit’s not funny anymore,” he began. “Trump is threatening elected GOPers at all levels in places that haven’t been competitive in decades… We are looking at an extinction-level event.”

Among other things, Mackowiak ripped Trump for continuing to campaign in Connecticut when any hope of winning that state is long gone. He also said that Trump needs to dial back his rallies and TV interviews, and spend an average of 20 hours a week doing preparation for the fall debates.

Does that sound like something Trump would really agree to? Probably not, but Mackowiak insisted that Trump had to do it anyway. “You can’t overstate panic inside GOP currently,” he said.

...I'm sure that his consultants are praying that it won't come up in the debates and one of his homework assignments will be to learn to say "I mean Obama created a vacuum where Isis can thrive..." (repeating that till he has it memorized). I mean, that's the thing about debates. Your words and decisions come back to haunt you; in a good debate, nothing is off the table. Like when Trump got called out in the primaries about saying women were "pigs" etc.

And that, in the end, is the biggest problem for Donald. You see, he's a joker, but the jokes he likes to tell are the off-color ones that all his "buddies" laugh at--he's exactly the sort who says proudly "I'm not PC! I tell it like it is," and all the white men around him slap him on the back and say "Amen, brother!" But those jokes don't fly if someone takes them apart. "So, you think it's funny to call women pigs? Why? Explain this joke to me."

Jokes haven't any power (nor humor) if they're deconstructed. And in a debate, everything and anything could get deconstructed.

There are no good options for the GOP here. If the RNC "pulls the plug" on the Trump campaign, Don the Con will retaliate and urge his supporters to abstain from voting on down ballot races.

Politico reports that more than 70 prominent Republicans — including several former GOP senators and congressmen — have written a letter begging RNC chairman Reince Priebus to pull the plug on Trump’s campaign and instead spend all their resources protecting down-ballot Republican senators and representatives.

Trump stressed his difficulties in the country’s only majority-Mormon state — making an apparent play for support by noting that he has a “tremendous problem” in Utah.

Trump basically threw Utah, Mormons, and Mitt Romney under the bus to pander to evangelicals. Not only is Trump not expanding the EV map, he appears to be determined to get his digs in against Mitt Romney even if it means he loses all hope of getting Utah's 6 EVs.

Music to my ears.

But to be fair, the Republican party was already on the demise before trump ever came onto the scene. They still have the teabaggers to contend with that is ripping their party apart.

Trump is a stark raving lunatic. But, then again, so is Ted Cruz. They can't pin this all on Trump. They have every bit as much to blame.

Nonsense.

The GOP did all by themselves. (Trump wouldn't be there if it weren't for them)

Trump is there result of the GOP being what it is and has been for decades now.

"Democrats during Obama’s presidency lost 11 governorships, 13 U.S. Senate seats, 69 House seats, and 913 state legislative seats and 30 state legislative chambers".

And we will see the TPP pushed thru by Obama during a lame duck session. Yea, democrats rule, we are so much better than Trump. Makes me sick.
