2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumEveryone I personally know who is voting for Jill Stein
Does not have a single right that may be taken away from them if the Supreme Court falls to Republicans or if the Republicans pursue the same sort of agenda as the last Republican administration.
Not a single one.
Must be nice.
And therein lies the reality of the Jill Stein voter.

(21,086 posts)They value their votes as a personal expression, a thumbs up or down as though they were choosing which cell phone to buy. Or they associate themselves as a preferred brand by raising up one party over another-in place of choosing the best option for the leader of the free world.
People didn't vote for Roosevelt b/c they were a dem. or a repub. They voted for him because he was the best choice they had for the worst choices that any person in this office can or will be presented with.
People need to get back to the basics of the job description and stop inflating their ego's with meaningless campaign prattle. They unwittingly add to the notion of electoral consumerism and it is damaging us as a nation.

I pity anyone who doesn't celebrate their commitment and disdain anyone who would take that legality from them.

(18,672 posts)It must be really nice to have the luxury of putting your firmly held ideals before actual human beings. That is rare privilege many people don't have, namely people of color, women, LGBT and immigrants.
And it's also immoral:

(18,672 posts)Knowing that children of American Muslims and people of color are asking their parents if everything is going to be alright. It makes me want to weep sad, angry tears knowing there are Americans who are rightfully afraid for their futures simply because Trump is demonizing them. It's unacceptable! I just wish some people would think about this when they voted.

(8,421 posts)the more I can't even possibly think of voting for her. I may not be crazy about HRC, but I'm not crazy! I didn't march for women's rights for nothing! The Supreme Court is my main reason for not voting for her (that and I live in WI, a 'leans blue' state-I want to make sure it is blue!)

(53,866 posts)people in blue states with democrats from top to bottom like NY and NYC in particular are protected by Democrats legislating progressive laws, hence their utter disregard for people for whom the federal govt and SC are their only lines of defense is just callous.
if it's really a conscience issue, then you shouldn't ask someone in georgia or michigan to disregard their conscience, while you get to vote yours.
i, however, will never believe this is a morality issue. this is a pure ego, sore loser, highly entitled person's way of voting.

(11,605 posts)I don't take for granted anything with regard to the state or federal government. As a lawyer, I care very much about the Supreme Court. But because I live in such a blue state, I would feel freer to cast a protest vote for president if I wanted to because I know that my vote for president won't effect the Supreme Court or federal legislation.
A few months ago when I was angry and depressed over the primaries, I seriously considered not voting for Hillary, but only because I know she will win New York. If I lived in a swing state I would never consider not voting for her.
In the end I decided to vote for her anyway because I decided the things I admire about her outweigh the things that give me pause, but I do feel free to cast a protest vote if I want for president not because I don't care about the Supreme Court and federal legislation or won't be effected by them, but because I know my vote will not effect these things.

(11,605 posts)But with one exception, they are staunch libertarians who never would have considered voting for Hillary (though oddly, a couple of them would have considered voting for Bernie if he had won the nomination).
The one exception in my circle is a Bernie supporter who is liberal like me but grew up around libertarians and plans to vote for Gary Johnson now. However, she promised me that if Hillary has a chance of winning her red-leaning state she will vote for her.

I've had every vacs. I'm 70, fit, healthy, still running 5 K's.
My biggest problem these days is trying to understand why I don't feel old. I walk, run, still work full time, eat and drink most ppl under the table.
Looks like the many vacs over the years didn't really harm me that much.
