Your post only refers to "sensible people". You don't name or identify any other group. Then you talk about "ripping them a new one". So the only antecedent in the writing is the "sensible people".

Possibly when you wrote "them" you might have meant to write "Republicans" or "Tea Party members" or "Trump supporters" or "knuckle-draggers" or "orchid breeders" or "media talking heads", but we can't be sure from the way it is written. We can only speculate.
