It needs to be examined in serious light.
Obviously racism is part of it, but there's more to it than that.
A breakdown of the top reasons, or a psychology a design survey, would be fascinating.
Here are a few categories I would consider:
- dog whistles
- xenophobia
- trust a rich "self funded" (sic) guy instead of establishment politician
- a pretend strong man
- simple language over nuanced language

The GOP establishment (and Fox News in particular) has been plowing the ground for decades to dumb down their base and their dialog.

Wed Aug 3, 2016, 08:11 AM
Aug 2016

in many people. I see that here in PA. It takes a major event to get
people to eject an incumbent. People are not politically aware, they
do not know and are not aware of the impact of politics and political
economy on their lives. They accept someone because they accept
a similar ethnic name, a person who looks good in TV ads, a person
who supports local jobs/police/firefighters/nursinghomes/vets and
shows it in video clips.

We're more aware now with the internet, the age of mass media
is waning, but voter education is needed. Most Trump supporters that
I've met are new to politics, little education, they go for the emotions
and sound bites.

Joe Scum is an idiot. It was republicans who voted for trump. Most of the primaries, the Republicans don't have open primaries. Trump won the nomination because more republicans approved of his racist, sexist agenda

If Bill Clinton had the foresight that Trump could incite the Tea Party to bring down the GOP, then he's more of a political genius than I imagined. It would be a very reckless tactic, however.
