I don't have a purple heart, but I have other medals. I was awarded one copy of each medal at a ceremony, and then I could purchase extra copies if I had more than one uniform or one was damaged.

I'm pretty sure you can just buy a purple heart online if you need one, so it really makes no sense to call it a "copy" as if it is not a real medal.

I wouldn't give away the medal I actually got handed to me either, I guess. Although it really isn't any different from the ones you can buy in the store on base.

DoD and service branches will provide new medals to vets as necessary and they are also sold in base stores and on civilian markets. Except for the Medal of Honor--that is the one medal which, by law, may not be sold.

If the guy said it's a "copy" that doesn't mean it's not a real Purple Heart. It just means it's not the one he was originally issued.

(From a Purple Heart recipient, yours truly .)

Some do and some don't. Mine doesn't have my name on it. Though if I request a replacement I can request that it be engraved.

Trump should have thanked the Vet for his service and sacrifice and re-pinned him.

Especially with his Vietnam draft history.

This Purple Heart recipient was flabbergasted!
