But at least Senator Sanders and his supporters now have a tiny idea is what it was like for the rest of us Democrats during the primary.

The OP's question is legitimate. How do you go from supporting one of the most experienced and best known politicians in America with a track record to supporting a nobody loser whose ideology comes from a menu of "extreme" positions?

Jill Stein is a nobody. She has no accomplishments. She has no chance of winning and anyone that supports her has poor judgement.

It's not completely "chicken or fish" like Obama said, but it's chicken or fish. You support Hillary or you support Trump. If you don't vote for Hillary, you are a Trump enabler. So what's more extreme than supporting a Trump enabling Jill Stein? You're voting for authoritarianism, racism, and war if you vote for Jill Stein.

They just want to be against something. They also wouldn't be hurt by a Trump presidency.

90%+ of Bernie supporters have already said they would go with Hillary.

These anarchists would have ended up with the Greens, the Libertarian, or even the Trump.

They were just 'with Bernie' so that they could stir up trouble.

Fuck 'em.

I think it's an "anybody but Hillary except maybe Trump" scenario, but that's just a guess.

Similarly, Trump voters are white racists, dumbfuck ignoramuses, and unreconstructed fascists, but that doesn't mean they're not real Americans.

Stein is a bit of a nut and a career political loser. Supporting her is going to accomplish nothing other than further disappointment for the few (alleged) Sanders supporters who seem to think it's a good idea.

What that has to do with being American is anyone's guess.

How does one go from following Bernie Sanders, a mayor, congressman and Senator, to a person who can barely get elected to town council?

They want Trump to win. Then they can say to the Dem "See if you only gave us X, Y, Z then we would have voted for Clinton and she would have won". But since 2000 I think they lost many would be voters. I don't think it worked. Bush being so unpopular did help Obama win in 2008. I guess there could be an argument that without Bush the dems would have been less progressive in 2008 than if Gore won. But that still didn't stop Nader from running again in 2008.
