2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumOne thing to learn from how they ran things in Cleveland:
It is NOT cool to record the votes of entire state delegations as going to the nominee in the roll call, despite the actual vote breakdown in each delegation.
Trump did himself nothing but damage in erasing the votes of non-Trump delegates.
I'm going to assume we WON'T repeat his mistake in Philly.

(1,474 posts)If a candidate withdraws and releases her or his delegates, as is the norm, then there is nothing wrong with an entire state's delegation being counted for the winning nominee.
If the losing candidates can count, they know better than to demand a delegate by delegate count, if in the end it just means that their loss will be shouted from the hills.

(50,254 posts)A lot of people are spending money they don't have to get to Philly to cast their ballot for the candidate they worked for.
It's hugely important to let them do so.
If the nomination is already decided, there's no reason not to be big about it.
And it will impress the voters if every delegate in Philly is treated well.
Nothing is harmed, good will is demonstrated, and the odds of victory are greatly improved.
It's part of the process of unification.

(1,474 posts)The process of releasing one's delegates prior to a convention is one mechanism by which the animosity between a party's candidates is alleviated, though. You know, regular normal human kind behavior, signalling good intentions rather than threats of disruption.

She's a much bigger person than I could have been at that moment.
I hope Bill is the one puts her over the top.

(50,254 posts)I'm just saying let's build unity through respect.
Trump treated the non-Trump delegates like shit(even some Trump delegates didn't like what he did there).
His decision to do that is probably at least half the reason Cruz refused to endorse him in his convention speech.
It left a bitter taste in a lot of people's mouths there that never needed to be left.
Let's be better than that.
