2016 Postmortem

So, you all know me as an avid Bernie supporter.
And I just wanted to make it known that I still stand with Bernie and the political revolution he started. I won't beat around the bushes here...
I still have trust issues with Hillary. I still feel a sting from how my views and actions have been cast aside and insulted during the primary.
But I also understand that I was passionate as well and I lashed out at others.
The point is, now that Bernie has endorsed Hillary, I want it to be known that I have every intention to follow his lead. I don't have the luxury to allow a Trump presidency and I won't sit comfortably by while risking a nation of emboldened bigots being proven right, that they can legitimately step on the rights of my neighbors of minorities.
Essentially, if Hillary wins, the Bernie's Political Revolution still has a platform.
If Trump wins, then we lose it all. Not only will we be halted, but we'll be backtracked a long ways.
So... To get to it, I'm sorry to the Hillary Supporters that I may have offended during the primary season.
If we are progressives, then let us progress.
If anyone else wants to stand up and apologize, (and this is all in the interest of unity, we've been pretty brutal), then step on up and make amends.
Stand together, right? Let's continue onward.
DISCLAIMER: This apology reflects my opinion and my opinion alone. I am representing no other party, site or forum.

(1,630 posts)Thank you for the gracious sentiment. Elections and campaigns can be really difficult and sometimes bring out the best and worst of us. You are right; it is critical that Dems work together and never forget that our similarities are greater than our differences. We have a lot of progress to make and a huge amount of conservative policy to undo. We desperately need to be united in that goal to stave off attacks from the GOP. The Clinton and Sanders coalition of Democrats is unbeatable. Stronger together!

(113,132 posts)I have no problem supporting HRC at this point, and acknowledged that some months ago, especially when another great goal of mine is to see the utter demise of the GOP as it exists today.
FWIW - Both sides had their silly days - I was banned by both groups for daring to express dismay at unnecessarily divisive use of RW talking points and careless exaggerations.
When your activism shifts to GOTV your patience for divisiveness wears thin pretty damn fast.
Welcome to GOTV. It matters - every election.

(4,311 posts)but thank you for your gracious OP and of course I apologise if I've ever offended anyone. I strive to be always civil, but I don't always live up to my own ideals. I hope Bernie supporters throughout this primary season knew me (if they knew me at all!) as a polite Hillary supporter who was willing to engage in discussion about issues.
I think this endorsement comes at a great moment (although I do admit I was impatient for it!) and sets us up for a wonderful Democratic convention, in stark contrast to the other side of the aisle, which is going to be a shit show of epic proportions.
Thanks again for your nice OP.

(11,746 posts)My opinion is just my opinion. Take it or leave it.
I don't recall you at all. If we crossed paths and had harsh words, you caused me no harm. I am on record as advocating vote blue no matter who. I have never said a harsh word about Sanders, although I don't see why that matters and I don't see that making me any better or any worse. "Conservatives" are the enemy and my issue with whatever you want to call that certain group of people who express hatred towards Hillary Clinton and towards Democrats is that they enable "conservatives."
"Conservatives" are evil and they aren't fit to govern.
No offense but I don't care about you or whether you trust Hillary Clinton or whatever. This isn't about you. This is about our nation. I have kids. I care about their future and I'm scared for them.
That said, if you learned something and grew that's awesome. I'm proud of you. Let's continue onward, by all means.

(13,029 posts)It's the Sanders supporters who would rather see Donald Trump elected and the Republicans tighten their grip on the government than vote for Hillary. How to we get them to understand that now is the time for unity?
We should focus on the common goal of keeping Trump out of the White House.
Senator Sanders will still be part of our government and can have even more influence and help make positive changes.
They need to be helped to understand that.
How do we help them????

Thank you for being so candid here. I'm sure everybody here at one time or other said something - well, let's just call it inadvertent.
Thank you for your sincerity. I meant mine as well.
And let me say, I've been on the losing end of many campaigns, myself. I remember dressing in black and blue for work, the day after reagan won in 1980. It's a pretty miserable feeling. I'd bet everybody here has been there at the end of one primary or general election campaign or other!
You're absolutely spot-on about what's at stake. I'm so glad you're standing with us, and that I'm standing with you! Saving you a seat here right next to me!
GOOD on you, GOOD on Bernie, GOOD on all his supporters who are making that transition (as challenging as it might be) or have already done so.
We ARE stronger together. And we will keep the White House - TOGETHER. And we will renovate and salvage the Supreme Court (and maybe also the U.S. Senate) - TOGETHER. Should be a cinch. After all, there are more of us Dems than there are CONS anyway!

(80,708 posts)And yes, there was uncalled for shit thrown from both sides.
Perhaps because of my vantage point, I saw a lot of awful crap thrown at sanders and his supporters, myself. Not just implying that sanders people were an assemblage of every vile, shambling trait in the universe, with a "bro-" suffix attached, but people calling Sanders things like a supporter-deceiving cheap rip off artist who enjoys things like "writing rape fantasy porn".
And yeah, there was nasty stuff thrown at hillary, too. And her supporters. For my part, I dont think I ever attacked HRC on anything other than issues, and i tried not to go after her supporters, although I acknowledge that I may have made the occasional snarky comment about age demographics or cultural relevance. For anything like that, I sincerely apologize.

I'm not saying Hillary is crooked. Far from it. All politicians bend the truth at some point. All of them. Not a one of them is immune to it. But you see, that's why I feel I CAN entrust this nation to her as President. I voted for people who were known to be crooked, because they DID THEIR JOBS. Her, I voted for, because I can believe in her, and I can trust that she will do the right thing.
She's been maligned for so many years by both the right and the left it's not even funny. I remember VERY well when she first spoke of a vast right wing conspiracy against her, and everyone thought she was crazy. She wasn't.
