2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBernie has asked for 2nd extension on filing his financial disclosures,
saying he has been too busy.
Both Hillary and the Don, who are busy running as the presumptive nominees, have filed their forms.
We know how he earned his money as US Senator. The question appears to be about Jane's income.

Bernie Sanders has asked for and received another 45 days to disclose information about his personal finances.
Still a Democratic candidate for president, Sanders is required to file the paperwork. He has not been campaigning since the beginning of June, when Hillary Clinton effectively locked up the nomination.
But the Vermont senator's lawyer is telling the Federal Election Commission that Sanders' "current campaign schedule and officeholder duties" are causing delays in filing the personal finance paperwork; the lawyer gave a similar reason when seeking the first 45-day extension at the end of April.
The documents would provide a snapshot of how he and his wife, Jane Sanders, earned money last year.

(13,340 posts)Does he no linger have to file? If so, that makes me a bit curious as to what he is hiding. Weird.
MineralMan
(146,329 posts)nobody will notice or care at that point, frankly. There's probably something a little embarrassing in there. It won't matter though for someone who isn't the nominee or running.
Adrahil
(13,340 posts)But if he is hiding something, that would be a a yuuuuge embarrassment for him. I'm guessing the same reason they haven't released previous tax returns.
Not that I would have cared all that much. No one is as pure as the driven snow.

The Maplefields owner also criticizes O'Meara Sanders and her daughter, Carina Driscoll, for their paid work, more than a decade ago, on Sanders' reelection campaigns. In addition to the $30,000 O'Meara Sanders made, Driscoll earned $65,002 for her work as campaign manager, fundraiser and database manager during the 2000 and 2004 cycles, the Reformer reported.

(146,329 posts)the content of speeches made by a private citizen, though, you see. There is for candidatesx financial disclosures.
There is a difference.
ciaobaby
(1,000 posts)Just comparing the need for transparency - only applies when convenient.
MineralMan
(146,329 posts)Hillary never has to release her speeches. All candidates, though, have to release those financial disclosures. Federal law requires it. Hillary Clinton has already done that. Sanders has not. It's the law, you see.
Hillary Clinton Wii probably never release those transcripts, because she is not required to. I hope that clarifies my point.
ciaobaby
(1,000 posts)No law requires presidential candidates to release their tax returns, but history does.
in addition, Bernie did release 2014 returns.
And my point remains - Transparency applies only when convenient.
MineralMan
(146,329 posts)There is a difference. Those disclosures ARE required. Tax forms aren't. It is a matter of law. Details matter.
ciaobaby
(1,000 posts)He may yet file what is required. But as you admit Hillary will probably never release the transcripts and we will never know what promises she has made to GS and wall street. I know that doesn't bother you, and most on this site, but it does bother me.
MineralMan
(146,329 posts)I doubt it very much. Have you any evidence of that? They weren't private conversations. They were speeches at banquets or conferences. Promises aren't made in such speeches, which are usually generalities, jokes and commentary on things.
If you know of promises that were made, please tell us about them and how you got that information. That would be great.
ciaobaby
(1,000 posts)Pretty sure if they were all generalities, jokes, and commentaries we would be welcome to the transcripts, and yet when you are paid what she was paid I am pretty certain they would expect just a wee bit more.
Investments and such, they are not used to getting nothing but jokes for what they paid her.
MineralMan
(146,329 posts)such functions, where highly paid speakers are featured? I do, and I've never learned anything of consequence at any of them. It's all stories, platitudes and unfunny jokes. Such speakers are hired for their fame. They rarely say anything important. I've sat though dozens of them.
ciaobaby
(1,000 posts)MineralMan
(146,329 posts)Still, there is no requirement that she release speeches made as a private citizen. There is a requirement to file those financial statements. Clinton has done so. Sanders has not. I don't care, frankly, but those filings are a legal requirement. Candidates should meet all legal requirements in a timely way. Clinton has done so. Sanders has not. Simple, really.
