2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe convention will not be contested
Hillary will not be arrested.
Superdelegate votes count as soon as they declare their intentions.
She needs 2383 total delegates. She need not reach that number solely with pledged delegates. She can do it with a combination of pledged and supers, like so many men that came before her did.
There will not be special restrictions placed on her just because some people are angry.
No amount of taking it to the streets will change the fact that millions more voters chose Clinton.
No amount of anger, name calling, attacking, accusing, or veiled threats will change the fact that Hillary is the nominee. And she did not use fraud to win, she reached out to voters.
Hillary will choose her own platform and doctrine. She will choose her own VP. No amount of warnings or threats or harrassments will force her to let the primary runner up make all her decisions for her.
Time to get behind the nominee and stop trying to take her down and weaken her. Trump is the real enemy, and if you do not agree, you may just not be a Democrat.

(28,348 posts)In MOST primary elections, the outcome is determined well before the final states weigh in.
I don't know, I myself would prefer a "four quarters" approach. Three quarters with a mix of states in scattered regions and sizes, and one quarter with a bunch of small states together.
But the fact is, none of us is such a special snowflake that the entire primary election has to wait for them to vote. It's silly to the nth level and often makes the people who say it sound self-centered and immature.
Almost every primary of my life, my vote has been cast well after the results were already well known. I never felt like everybody should stop and wait for me. I didn't stew about being "cheated." It's just the way it goes.

(2,542 posts)I don't get where this "We lost, appease us!" nonsense comes from. If Bernie had won, would he be expected to make concessions? Would he be giving Clinton 5 convention committee slots where no other losing candidate in history had ever gotten them? Would Bernie be letting Clinton pick his VP for him? What would Bernie say if Clinton demanded some of his supporters be removed from their convention roles because she thought they were too mean to her?
None of that would happen.

(13,616 posts)this op is saying that bernie should not be allowed into the process because he lost, Hillary LOST, and yet she obviously gained a concession.
He did indeed make that decision, and my point about those people who died as a result of Hillary's "we came we saw, he died" joke do indeed regret that he did. That is not robbing people of their agency, that is pointing out a fact. Indeed, if Obama did not reject the calls for aggression in Syria, that Hillary herself detailed in a little book called "hard choices" we might be going to war with Syria , which mean war with Russia, which means that the Hot war with Russia even Nixon managed to avoid could be done under the decisions of one Hillary Clinton.
you do remember her decision to publish that book while Obama was busy trying to cool down the war, right? The one where she blamed Obama's refusal to escalate that war for the rises of isis?
http://www.commondreams.org/views/2016/02/01/want-endless-war-love-us-empire-well-hillary-clintons-your-choice
http://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2014/08/hillary-clinton-failure-to-help-syrian-rebels-led-to-the-rise-of-isis/375832/
No one forced her to write those books, did they? And no one forced people not to read them or ignore them, that was the choice of some who wanted to support her anyway.
and no one forced her to do this knowing it would be used as propaganda.
and sadly, I am going to have to make a choice to vote for her to avoid trump, but that will not force me to do everything possible to make her that if she continues to ask for war in Syria, putting up that no fly zone that ensures a risk of direct conflict with Russia, that I will not do whatever is possible to stop it. Some people will, abandon their agency because a) they really do nto mind war or B) think it is worth their vanity to say that Hillary is doing it.

(34,186 posts)Except that I think Bernie and his supporters should exert as much influence as they can on the activities and outcomes of the convention.
I do not think a strong Bernie or Bernie supporter response they will weaken Clinton. Its not like Trump will attack her from the left (except on NAFTA).
I think it is important for a liberal like Bernie to show that a liberal can't fight hard until the very end. Remember when we heard Dean and Edwards says they were taking it "all the way to the end" but they dropped out.
And its easier for me to support your OPs when you don't indulge in character assassination down thread.
bravenak
(34,648 posts)I try to keep it upbeat if possible. We will find a day when we are in full agreement on an issue in the future, so I am limiting myself to attacking ideas rather than engaging in personal attacks.
I do not mind people fighing for inclusion of their ideas. But I dislike the fantasy component.

(34,186 posts)People have been telling Bernie supporters that he can't improve his standing much from the very first day of his campaign. When you've been told that every possible upcoming achievement is impossible and a fantasy and many of them are achieved along the way, one begins to doubt the fantasy label.
Still, I agree with you that HRC will be the nominee. I support all Bernie supporters speaking their minds civilly.
I don't think Bernie is ego driven -- I think its pride in a liberal agenda that motivates him to continue the fight.
He'll concede eventually, support HRC, and he'll go back to Vermont. I'm not sure HRC would want Bernie to campaign for her.

Oh, I believe that she's very likely to get the nomination on the first ballot, but that happens at the contested convention which we will inevitably have.
Your tribalism is getting tiring. Hillary's job is to earn votes. No amount of anger, name calling, attacking, accusing, or veiled threats will change the fact that Hillary has a hell of a steep hill to climb in that regard and much if it is her own doing. I'll do my part to drag her up that hill when the time comes, but I do expect her to fail in the end.
