2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHillary's server
Why she did it:
?Henry Kissinger, United States Secretary of State, (March 10, 1975)
The fact that she had the server set up by an incompetent hack demonstrates, once again, her utter lack of judgment.

(36,418 posts)The fact that Pagliano (or was it Cooper?) wiped the settings that the Secret Service had initially coded (directing the server to link with the authorized State Dept. IP address) is legally significant. Avoiding the authorized Departmental system was no random thing, but entirely intentional and thought out on the part of everyone involved.

(5,946 posts)hack is a hack, I fell off my chair laughing when it said the virus definitions were out of date - I Think That is the easiest thing to get right and even that was wrong. a hack s a hack is a hack. NBut you know it was a trusted hack, that is how he got his job, competence be damned. If you are on the friends list, it's a go.

(29,294 posts)Had they retained an IT firm of the quality that would be befitting wealthy heads of state for their confidential/national security needs, or even appropriate for a normal business, that firm would have known that the setup they wanted was improper. They needed people who would do their bidding and keep mum about it.
They are finding, as is the rest of the world, that they may not be quite as clever as they think.

(18,133 posts)they "why" she wanted it separate was clearly to avoid oversight. The "why" it was done so poorly is likely that actual IT security experts would have understood what she was up to and not have been willing to get involved risking their careers and possibly their freedom.
