2016 Postmortem

"The week that Donald Trump finally sealed the Republican presidential nomination ought to have been a triumphant one for Hillary Clinton. With a final few delegates nudging him past the official finishing line on Thursday, here at last was the candidate that Democrats always dreamed of running against: unpopular, undisciplined and ostensibly unelectable in Novembers general election.
Yet in the Alice in Wonderland world of American politics in 2016, nothing is what it seems. Clinton supporters would instead have to stomach six impossible things before the week was out.
The first was the sight of the former secretary of state falling behind her Republican opponent in an average of national opinion polls. Though by a wafer-thin and probably temporary margin, the breaching of this symbolic threshold could yet become self-fulfilling if it normalises the once unthinkable prospect of a Trump-themed White House
Then came a damning report by an independent inspector at the Department of State, who contradicted her claims that she had been allowed to use a private email server for official business while serving as the nations chief diplomat. Once again, things were not quite as simple as they appeared, and Clinton allies argue that the report also shows other former secretaries of state up to the same tricks. But only one of them is running for president. With the FBI still investigating whether she broke federal law, this is an old wound that could reopen again before the contest is over.
Some Democrats, such as progressive champion Elizabeth Warren, show signs of trying to rally around their beleaguered team captain, yet the ongoing FBI investigation also complicates the ability of the partys most influential cheerleader to come to the rescue. At a press conference in Japan, the normally loquacious Barack Obama flat out refused to take a question from a journalist asking whether the email scandal undermined Clintons trustworthiness."

(8,541 posts)Worst case scenario for Bernie is he doesn't win. I'd take that over Hillary's worst case scenario.

(68,543 posts)not winning is a best case for me. He would never get elected in a general, we just must hope Hillary can overcome the double teaming of by Trump and Bernie and win this thing.

(50,986 posts)they may discover something not yet revealed.
It would appear that Mrs. Clinton lied about what happened involving the private server and the recent investigation exposed the lie. "Other Secretaries of State did the same thing!" is not likely to stop the FBI's ongoing investigation. And I'm sure the Republicans are keeping a close eye on developments.

(32,822 posts)The question is will she suffer the consequences you and I would or will she be protected.
She clearly jeopardized national security. If a republican had done this her supporters would be screaming from the rooftops. And before you say Powell and rice did it, NO they didn't. Neither conducted state department business in their own damn private unsecured server. And if you don't know what that means stop fucking commenting on it.

(443 posts)They must of found something. Because AG said that the FBI case started as a security review and that was the Genesis of the investigation. So unless the AG. who is one top lawyers in country, does not know what word Genesis(the origin or mode of formation of something.). Now they question is are they finding more and what.
I don't think she means

The probability of an FBI recommendation for indictment just went from somewhat low to somewhat high.

There's a flickering matter also of all the people who have heartily endorsed her candidacy but who have not been told all the information related to the private server. IMO they deserve to be told and it's Hillary Clinton's responsibility to tell them. Is she really confident her actions regarding the server are not actionable? Are those who have endorsed her confident?
The more furtive it looks the less trustworthy she becomes.

(18,837 posts)We're locked into a cycle where any criticism of Clinton is met by a slam at Sanders and high school "LOLs," and meanwhile, Trump has been largely silent when it comes to Clinton.
Every attack he initiated on the occupants of the GOP Primary Clown car is going to look tame in comparison once we are in full GE mode.
The solution behind a candidate who is a disaster waiting to happen is not to "rally behind" them with the blinders on.
There are basically two options:
1). Fight the battle of a lifetime that will diffuse anything Trump throws at her, or
2). Find a new candidate between now and June.
Then there's option 3, which is to "LOL" our way to November.
I'm pretty sick of the "LOL" crap.
