Kevin ?@KevinDarryl 7h7 hours agoAt what point am I allowed to celebrate Hillary making history?
I get that we arent allowed to spike the football, for fear of offending voters whose candidate is losing. I get that we arent allowed to highlight the incredible obstacles Hillary has faced to get where she is today, for fear of being told we are shills, paid trolls, neoliberal, apologists, or the establishment.
But at what point can we celebrate what Hillary is on the cusp of? When do we acknowledge the shattered glass at our feet which shes left scattered in her wake?
From the moment Hillary hit the political scene in Arkansas, from the second she stepped foot on the campaign trail for her husband back in the 1992 election cycle, she was treated as an existential threat to Republican politics. Hundreds of millions of dollars have been spent for the past 25 years to make you hate her (incidentally, does anyone else think this may provide some explanation for the fact that her weakest support comes from the people who have only been alive that long?). Shes been investigated, slandered, exonerated, ridiculed, and honored time and time again. But more than that shes worked harder and longer and more effectively than any woman in American political history.
Yet, if she were to take a bow, if we were to pump our fists at this seminal moment in history, wed be accused of all manner of incivility.
So when would it be okay to acknowledge this profound and deeply appreciated accomplishment to millions of Americans who are voting for her to succeed where no woman has succeeded before?

(1,507 posts)Sorry stating a fact upsets you.
While we're toning it down, you might want to tell your fellow Berners to tone down the posts on Lolita Express, Whitewater, and other RW generated scandals.
Of course, after Cali votes you won't have to. Skinner will do it for you.
Betty Karlson
(7,231 posts)And that is thanks to decades of Third-Waying. For you to bash them for the misery YOUR generation created is pretty rich. Especially when doing so in support of a candidate who is the embodiment of Third Way.

Bernie will fix it.
On edit: The irony of someone with a transparency page that's lit up like the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center telling others to "tone it down" is not lost on me.

It's about time for a new broom there and some reinvigoration The 90's are past their sell-by date, even if Clinton manages to get into the WH.
Might even be good for the nation to have two parties that are actually different on issues of Wealth and Power.

(94,922 posts)...all they have to do is give up their holier-than-thou Independent status, register as Democrats, get involved with the actual working process of the Party, and then build a coalition for their approach.

(47,803 posts)You're indulging in the nose-in-the-air attitude that anyone who disagrees with the status quo is lazy and shiftless.
I'd also add that building a political campaign from scratch with very little support from the Democratic Machine is not a walk in the park..

...I'll be damned if I need anyone's permission, especially not from a clinging, losing campaign.

ASTOUNDED by the degree to which white patriarchy, L & R, has been able to squash attention on the HISTORIC nature of @HillaryClinton's run.

So no need to hold back.

(384 posts)Is that it looks terrible when somebody slaps the ball out of your hand just before you cross the goal line. The balance has clearly shifted in the last couple of days so that it is now more likely than not she will not be the Democratic nominee. Protect the football. It's one thing to get tackled short of the goal, it's another to turn the ball over to the opponent in the process.

(45,319 posts)secured as my own and would never, ever seek to call any victory in advance for anyone I supported in any field. In my own professional world, that's seen as something like bad luck. We say 'don't say it's mine until the ink is dried, until the check clears, until it's in the can'.
That's how I am. It's a tad superstition, partly about elegant forward motion after the fact and a desire to look good and win allies throughout the entire experience.
I'm never going to be the guy holding a victory party the day before a battle. But those who want to, they do not need my permission to do so anymore than I need theirs. It's silly to carry on as if you do need permission. That's an affectation, a passive aggressive tactic. If that is what you want to do, do so.
