2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHilarry ignored her IT people, and why that's serious.
So we have a very basic situation outlined in the recent report.
We have IT people, dedicated, knowledgeable, people whose entire job is understanding government security saying, "Uhm, this isn't a secure system."
Then we have Clinton's staff. "Shush, it's approved. And never bring this up again!"
Let's set aside the fact it wasn't approved. At all. The report states, "Even if she had actually asked us, we'd never have approved it."
No viable American company that expects to have a successful business runs this way. At least, not without great cost and grief. They'd get sued out of existence.
So we have a gigantic mess. IT people warned her. The government went, "Uhm, no this isn't ok." And yet, she persisted. Because she didn't want anyone . . . uh, reading her yoga routines. (Anyone who believes a woman of her age is yoga'ing five days a week, raise your hand).
But then, turns out, she was trying to shield how she was undermining President Obama. Sydney Blumenthal and whatnot. I mean, that's a little shitty, right? The President of the United States said, "Oh helllll, no," and Hillary's response was, "Fuck you. I do what I want!"
And all of this is ok with everyone?
She flipped off voters. She flipped off the State Department. She flipped off President Obama. But, nah, that's cool.
I'm straining to find a cabinet member with an ego translating to autonomy, and all I can come up with is Samuel Chase. Sam Chase was a guy who Lincoln appointed to make peace in his party, and Chase undermined him at every possible turn. Chase thought he should've been President, and he tried to build a coalition for future elections from his office in the Treasury.
You tell me.
What on earth was she doing? Kerry is a very good SoS. Hillary pursued her own goals and, by all accounts, pressed an uncertain Obama into disastrous policies.
But, aside from all that. People all around her said, "No, this isn't legal. This is a terrible idea. This is a security fuck up waiting to happen." And what we got was a blatant, "Shut up. Don't mention it. Ever. For reasons."
I have 19 year olds who can figure out what's wrong with her.

(5,815 posts)I live around Berkeley and certainly see elderly women going to town in yoga, but . . .
If Hilllary's down on a mat anywhere at anytime, I'll eat an ikea desk.
I'm the same age as Hillary and resent being called elderly!

(60,212 posts)then why is she running for president?
I'd never run for elected office because I don't want people up in my biz.
But I'll tell you that I go to Centergy at Sun Oaks in Redding. Used to go 3x a week, hoping to get back. But my yoga routine is not a secret.

Clinton gave him a special appointment position at State in the IT section so he could maintain the damned server and who knows what else.
They knew what they were doing and did not give a single damn.

(34,845 posts)Even quotes around make-believe conversations. There is a difference between breaking a law and not following a regulation. And "a security fuck-up waiting to happen" that never...actually...happened. Oh, my.

(16,327 posts)I confess that I have poo-pooed the email thing for a very long time.
But, after much reading -- including the OIG report -- there are three things that bother me the most. Her use (and hiring at the CF) of Blumenthal as an advisor against the wishes of the Administration, the reinforcement of her apparent belief that rules do not apply to her, and her attempts to circumvent record keeping rules. THAT bothers the shit out of me.
Her actions were stupid, negligent, arrogant, and possibly criminal.

(9,771 posts)But shhhhush! It's not her actions, but people talking about them that's the problem. Or so one would assume from reading DU.
Prediction.....Not a single Clinton supporter will defend these actions specifically.
They will just claim that unless she is convicted of something, its all good.
But completely spot on, OP.

(4,229 posts)My bet is Clinton knows virtually nothing about email or how it's set up.
From what I have read Huma Aberdin answers her phone for her and she is pretty much waited on hand and foot.
I think Clinton probably knows very little, probably why she didn't testify at the IG, didn't want to look stupid, and the whole thing was handled by Aberdin or somebody else.

(10,751 posts)Furthermore, is she really as ignorant as she and her supporters here want us to believe? She seems to know enough to be pushing a Manhattan Project on decryption, the better to allow our government to spy on the rest of us. I don't think she is as ignorant as she would like us all to believe. And I don't like the fact that she wants us to believe she is ignorant, either.
She plays ignorant very well, I'll give her that. That "What, with a cloth?" thing was cute, real cute. But it rang false to me. And in any case if she is really THAT ignorant, then I question her ability to be President.

(11,996 posts)Actually she didn't comply with m/any at all. And it was HER department.
And she lied about it.
And continues to lie about it, to try to minimize her selfish shady choices.

(35,015 posts)Do I think Hillary practices yoga 5+ times a week? No. But plenty of older men and women do. I''ve been practicing for years and hope to be at the same pace when I'm 100.

(5,815 posts)There are definitely fit older people out there. I just didn't want to single Hillary out based on appearance. I mean, I've seen her move around. She's obviously not a person with yoga routines. But I didn't want to be too on the nose.
Hell, there's a 70 year old body builder - cannot think of his name at the moment - who I've looked at and gone "Wait, what are you doing? What are you eating?! I want to be you!!"
Of course, I fear the answer is testosterone and steroids. But, still. There are some fit folks out there.
