Another day of anti-semitism, misogyny, racism, homophobia and death threats from Hillary supporters
http://www.democraticunderground.com/12512029508
REASON FOR ALERT
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.
ALERTER'S COMMENTS
Copying n pasting tweets of questionable authenticity, using them to accuse Clinton-backing DU'ers of racism, antisemitism, and misogyny.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Sun May 22, 2016, 04:15 PM, and the Jury voted 3-4 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: This is really digging a bottomless pit. It needs to stop.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: The OP is a post about politics, not about other posters. It also provides a warning about the presence of anti-semitism, which does exist and should be acknowledged as a threat to the common good. Definitely the OP is worthy of discussion, not a hide.
Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: The DUer who posted didn't write these vile things - just copied stuff to show the vile behavior of some Clinton supporters. The opposite has been done to Sanders supporters and allowed to stand so I see no reason to hide.
Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

(54,032 posts)I don't think "most" are anti-Semitic, but some certainly are. What I don't appreciate is being told to "ignore it", pretend it isn't serious or offensive, or tut-tuted in other ways. I have addressed anti-Semitism no matter the speaker, no matter who the person supports (or doesn't support), and I have gone round and round, for years at this site, with people who constantly berate, ignore, mock, or deride anti-Semitism. Quite frankly, it shouldn't matter if it is "most" or "some" or a "crazy few", anti-Semitism should be condemned as forcefully and with as much conviction as some do with racism, sexism, and on occasion, homophobia.
still_one
(92,482 posts)leave a different impression by wording the thread thusly:
"Another day of anti-semitism, misogyny, racism, homophobia and death threats from Hillary supporters"
instead of using wording such as:
"Another day of anti-semitism, misogyny, racism, homophobia and death threats from SOME Hillary supporters"
So on that point BTA we do have a slight disagreement. While I agree all forms of bigotry should be condemned, whether it is "some" or "most", or even a "crazy few", in the context of this thread the point of the OP was to leave the impression that "Hillary supporters are bigots", but as you rightfully pointed out, you condemn it from whatever camp it comes from.
Incidentally, I have been around here for years also, and I am Jewish as you are, and have seen you put up with quite a lot, and you never back down when you see an injustice. So my hats of to you.
Also, I didn't realize the OP was blocked from this thread, or I would not have posted a reply to someone who is unable to respond, so I do appreciate you responding.
Behind the Aegis
(54,032 posts)While I can't be certain, I don't doubt there was a certain part of the OP meant to reflect what you are claiming, but I think it is likely more a reaction to the plethora of threads implying the same about Sanders' supporters, especially the constant implications Sanders' supporters are raging racists, and many are women-hating monsters. I have seen a few accusations against Sanders and his supporters in regards to homophobia, but they aren't as common. Hell, I have even seen us (and Sanders) accused of being anti-Semites, though that is very rare.
I usually avoid these type of threads, no matter the candidate choice of the OP, but given some of the recent posts about anti-Semitism which barely garnered any views of comments, I was a bit "on edge." Some of the comments in this thread also really pissed me off. Since we have interacted in the past in a friendly sense, I figured I could say what I felt needed to be said without it become a flame war. I was correct.
Don't you hate when you respond in a thread like this and don't realize the person who you posted to is already dinged out?! I have done it a few times. It always make it seems like you are trying to "start shit" but in reality, you just didn't know!! LOL!
I just wanted to state that anti-Semitism is still bigotry and still worthy of condemnation (you can see in this thread why I felt compelled to say something, though not directed at you).

He's losing by the amount of votes he didn't compete for and he's whining about it.

(58,785 posts)It always is, no matter who it comes from. Social conservatives, who are rallying mostly to Trump (and to a far lesser extent Bernie actually), are the world's troublemakers because they are especially prone to bigotry with a very big, widely swung, fully loaded brush. There is also a smaller international far-left antisemitic swell that we're not seeing here very much, but mostly it's the nasty social and/or religious (lots of overlap) cons.

"Here, I focus on the control of Washington by Zionist Jews using the Obama administration as an example. Although a similar level of control by Zionist Jews can be seen in previous administrations, one could argue that their power has never been greater, as evidenced by the current administration."
"By now, you should have no doubt whatsoever that the media, Hollywood, the financial system are controlled by Zionist Jews.
Lets have a look at more of Obamas Jewish appointments so you can see that Washington too is controlled by Zionist Jews."
"Zionist Jews have effectively caused the societal and economic collapse of the U.S. This is a process that has been under way for several decades. Throughout this long period of deceit and subversion, they have created covers, distractions and deflections. They have transformed politicians into puppets. They have enslaved consumers using their banks. They have defrauded the entire population using their control over Wall Street. They have used their control over media, politicians and policy makers in order to shield any criticism of their crimes and their powerful crime syndicate."

(62,280 posts)There's almost certainly fake Sanders supporters out there. I think this site in particular is full of them. But look at how over the top and ridiculous the tweets are.
There are varying levels of hate, though. It's one thing to say "defund Planned Parenthood!" But it's another thing entirely to write racist screeds. The former will get you hundreds of recs in the Sanders group on this very site, the latter will get you banned.
Scootaloo
(25,699 posts)As to whether you get banned here. also, depends on what phrasing you use. And whether you're an "important" poster, or a "just a dude" poster.
It's adorable that you think the TOS actually applies on DU, more that it's applied evenly or fairly. I love that, never lose that innocence.
But even with that (Meager) threat overhead... You noticed how people are going off the deep end around here since the Troll Amnesty by Skinner? Yeah. Now take away anything like that. Take away consequences, and people will let it all hang out. Show people they can say whatever the fuck they want and nothing will be done no matter how low and vile and awful they get.. .and they'll tell you what's really on their minds.
Yeah. Could be fake accounts. But then we consider Occam's Razor. Most of these jackasses are probably completely sincere about both their support for Hillary and their belief that Sanders is well, all that shit hte tweets are saying. The two are absolutely not mutually exclusive, after all.
joshcryer
(62,280 posts)That's what the move to DU3 meant, not having to have moderators, but having the community moderate itself. It is more an indictment on the community than anything. As far as the amnesty, Skinner implemented it because so many AA members were being unfairly attacked and maligned and there was certainly brigading. After it went into effect, of course, several of them still got baited into responding to hateful trolls (in one case a poster responded directly to one of the trolls who was banned by MIRT shortly after, but they're still under review, even though who doesn't blame them for telling a troll to fuck off after they called them some really bad crap?). Do you know what that says to us as a community for hiding someones post because they told a troll to fuck off? One that got banned?
It suggests to me that there is no community. No sense of fairness or justice.
I look forward to see what Skinner has in store with the new moderator system.

(154,021 posts)My goodness David Horowitz was at SDSU recently. He is also designated as a hate monger by the SPLC. But try to concentrate. We are talking of antisemitism by HRC supporters. One here linked to Stormfront, in case you did not know.
I suggest you make that an OP though.
still_one
(92,482 posts)In addition I politely emailed the OP and suggested he find another link that didn't go to that site, but it was ignored. Incidentally, there are other sources which discussed Hillary's schedule, that he could have used.
but back to your original point regarding, "concentrate"
1. Is there proof that those posters are actually Clinton supporters other than they are using the Clinton logo, and saying they are Clinton supporters. It is a known fact the the GOP and trump supporters are portraying themselves as Clinton and Sanders supporter, and using it to divide.
2. The other point I have is that the OP is suggesting that this mindset is prevalent among Clinton supporters, and that is simply not true. In fact I would argue that 95%+ of the supporters of both Clinton and Sanders do not harbor any antisemitic feelings.
nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)Unless you know folks in real life. For the record I know more than a few on both sides, and a few on the HRC side I had to stop talking to, and one on the other side. But online, you really cannot be 100 percent sure. And that is the problem with all these narratives. That is the honest real truth. That said, I expected the antisemitism for the same reason I expected racialized politics in 2008.
And I have seen some pretty nasty stuff online.
And speaking of real shitty racists we just started setting gear fro the trump show on Friday. Damn, I need to go pick up a molle radio holder for the scanner. The point I have with your OP is two fold:

2. You are extrapolating that all Clinton supporters have that mind set, which is not true

The majority of Clinton supporter are NOT antisemitic nor are the majority of Sanders supporters, and your OP implies otherwise.
You indicate there are a log of ugly Clinton supporters out there, and I would argue there are just as many ugly Sanders supporters out there also, but I would never suggest that it represents the majority of Sanders or Clinton supporters

(24,544 posts)I know I'm supposed to be so horrified and swoon worthy over those posts, and Lord knows they are incredibly stupid and terrible, but the idea that it takes almost four months to find 7 or so bad anti-Sanders tweets is almost as hilarious as the idea that this was all just "randomly" gathered and is in no way a response to the RECENT, far more numerous in number and scale and far more disgusting behavior of Sanders supporters.
You know, the stuff the media has been all over the past few days. I'm sure it's just a coincidence that this post popped up now.
joshcryer
(62,280 posts)...to know they've been likely disavowed by any Clinton supporter who saw them. They are so fucking over the top it's ridiculous. It's not like WillyT's posts here that got rec'd and fawned over for months due to their subtle baiting.
Number23
(24,544 posts)Although there was nothing "subtle" about WillyT or his appeal to certain individuals here. But it's still hilarious that the OP thinks she has to scour three-four month old Facebook posts when she could find an absolute PLETHORA of ignorant, unhinged and bigoted comments right here on DU every single freaking day of every month.
But considering that so many of these comments come from Sanders supporters, I can understand hopping right over them to pretend that the true horrors are to be found in months old Facebook posts by a handful of Clinton "supporters".
applegrove
(118,865 posts)campaign. Does anyone truly believe this crap? I'll tell you a story. Right wingers complained that Canadian government institutions minister was an airhead because she said she had support for her legislation in 2 million tweets. The day before, some American blog did a story on Trudeau's wife and how she was not popular with Canadians when she wanted a bigger staff to do more speaking events than normal for a pm wife. She's that popular. The article's proof was 5 negative of Sophie Gregory Trudeau tweets.
I'm really beginning to think that the right in the USA has a coordinated attack on the Trudeau's lest some of their dumb luck, at working in a parliamentary system, and getting lots of liberal things done, shows Americans what life could be like. So in some cases millions of tweets mean nothing. In other cases a few tweets, supposedly by Hillary supporters, a few tweets are golden. What do you call a group that has one set of rules for themselves and another set of rules for their enemies: Republicans. Or hypocrites. Same difference.
Scootaloo
(25,699 posts)Look, applegrove... you've been fairly decent all through this mess, so I'm going to break level with you... you're very, very much the exception. I have no encountered maybe three Hillary supporters who I would trust to keep a plant alive, much less leave alone in a room with a child of any age. It has been a never ending stream of abuse, hate, bigotry, and now recently violence from your fellows. Early on in the campaign I was saying I don't judge candidates by their supporters - and I don't. But there's a damn good reason I was saying that and it's because very uniformly, Hillary supporters have been acting like fucking maniacs from the start.
I'm glad she's in the lead. I very honestly am because if she weren't, I have a very sincere feeling that some of her supporters, these people filled with burning rage while she's winning, would be doing to extremely untoward shit. I think this shit about them accusing Bernie supporters of violence is projection or wishful thinking on their part. You know those kind of gun owners who stomp around thinking "I wish someone would!" Yeah, like that.
Speaking of, very consistently the people who have been the biggest assholes, worst bigots, and most insufferable trolls on DU ? All seem to congregate to Clinton. Again, I don't judge candidates on their followers (Clinton's got enough going against her in my book anyway) but damn, I think that it does say SOMETHING.
So... Please do stop with the fainting couch stuff. Your fellows are not pure as the driven snow. No, there is no guarantee that these twits aren't some randos slapping up Clinton avatars to troll... But form what I've seen from "known elements" right here? Nah, no reason to suspect deceit there unless deceit is proven. These seem to be what Clinton supporters are like when you take away the threat of their posting ability getting revoked. It's what they got like on Hillary Clinton Supporters, too, before they get that place busted and Bill had to put some muzzles on people. And it's certainly evident here, since Skinner decided hides "don't count" anymore.
I'm sure you won't believe me. But just for a moment, consider a principle of "better safe than sorry."

(20,582 posts)It seems like there's no limit to their hatred for a movement disturbing the status quo. They're probably all doing very well themselves.

(20,582 posts)It's more than insulting to anyone over whatever 'age' is considered acceptable - especially towards one who's given so much. I hate bigotry.

(14,602 posts)loss of civility, though most of the blame for it lies solely on the oligarchs and their propaganda machine. But maybe it is easier when online because you're basically anonymous and so can present yourself differently or say more edgy things than you could in person. I'll bet none of these people would say these things directly to Bernie.

(12,296 posts)Don't get me wrong, I've seen some pretty disgusting things from avowed HRC supporters, but some of these are so over the top I really question if they're "her" supporters or just troublemaking trolls looking to ratchet up the internal war.

(4,558 posts)Real or not, actual hillary supporters or not (responding to some of the replies more than the OP), this should not be excused.
This should not be defended.
Redirecting to things said about Hillary.. Diminishes the disgusting things said here, not the best approach at all imo.
These people, and the horrendous things they said should be condemned by all persons who would call themselves civilized.
I am a supporter of Hillary Clinton, and I denounce these persons and their vile words, and refuse to make excuses for them.
