....and Hillary's inherent weakness don't sway super delegates, what is the point of having them?
Furthermore, if Bernie wins California and the convention isn't contested, what's the point of even having a convention?

Millions more.

(14,915 posts)....to my original question. If that is the case, why even have Super Delegates or a convention?

(3,733 posts)If Bernie had the most pledged delegates...the SDs would vote for him.
As to why the party has them.
You'll have to ask the party.
In this instance they're only going to confirm what the
primaries and pledged delegates already show.
That Hillary was the preferred candidate of the majority.

(14,915 posts)Do you want to win the GE or not? That's the only question that matters.
And again, if the SD's can't protect against a weak GE candidate, what purpose do they serve??

(28,270 posts)Plus the supers have been harassed for months by berners callin them whores and a menace to democracy, not to mention the death threats.
I just don't think they are ready to unite with those folks, call me crazy I guess.
Bernie's done.
Put a fork in him.

(6,007 posts)He looked over Hillary's entire election history. . .all the polls for every race and pointed out that she starts out high in the polls and when she starts to sink, she has NEVER been able to turn that around. In the races she won, it was because her opponent didn't have time to catch up, they were going up and she was coming down and the election was over before they got ahead.
But Trump is already ahead of her and we aren't even at the GE yet.
Do people REALLY want a Dem in the WH? If so, you better start feeling the Bern and make him the nominee or it will be President Trump.

(9,385 posts)I saw the same program.
The supers exist to make sure that the Primary process doesn't choose a nominee who can't win the General Election -- exactly the situation we have now. They had better do their job this time, or there will be a problem -- Trump will win the WH. We will find out who is really concerned about Trump, and who is just trying to use fear of him to corral votes.
Her polls will probably continue to slip as O'Donnell showed, until the convention (when the supers vote), so the issue should be pretty clear to the SDs by then. Add to that, whenever the FBI chooses to weigh in, that will cause a further drop. If the FBI doesn't speak up beforehand, Trump will inform the public about it all, after we no longer have Bernie as a safety net.
Although it's a rough way to do it, we're about to find out if any of the Supers have character.

(6,007 posts)Because at the convention Hillary may become the nominee, that means she could become the president. And, as president, she could get vengence on them for doing what they did and knowing what they know. She'd want to re-shuffle that whole deck of cards. So they need to do it to squelch her nomination. Let's hope.
