2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumTrump now leads Hillary for the first time ever in RCP's polling average
Just taken a .4 leads over Hillary. This is the future we chose when primary participants went for name recognition and party loyalty over enthusiasm and vision. Who knows, maybe Hillary will make her first polling come back in her political career.
Right.

(2,074 posts)the Republicans have started to coalesce around Trump, while the Democrats are still divided, largely because Bernie is continuing to attack Hillary even though he's already lost. Yes, Hillary is a flawed candidate. So is Bernie. So is Trump. But Hillary is the only one getting attacked from both sides.
Luckily polls this far out are meaningless. Just ask President Dukakis and President McCain. But meanwhile, yes, Hillary's current poll numbers have a LOT to do with Bernie's smearing of her as well as the fact that his continued campaign is preventing us from coalescing around our nominee.

(5,739 posts)If Hillary can't close the deal that is her fault. Bernie's only sin is presenting a decent alternative to party politics.

(67,112 posts)I also think it's good she duels with Bernie, good practice for going 1:1 with Trump.

(2,064 posts)but that won't stop the HRC minions from blaming everyone else for her myriad of shortcomings as a candidate. As liberal Democrats understand the depths to which HRC has sunk to carry water for Wall Street & corporate fat cats, her support evaporates.
Stop blaming Bernie or anyone else... It's all on Hillary.

Very depressing day.

(67,112 posts)high unfavorability ratings for Hillary and Trump, it's hard to tell what masses of Independents might do. Now, there is also likely going to be the mix of Libertarians in the pot with Johnson/Weld. What does concern me is all of Hillary's baggage will be drawn out by Trump. Millions of people are fed up with establishment politics in the US. It's hard to tell what might happen. When all of the fray is over, I certainly hope a dem is in the WH.

(8,978 posts)Trump has secured the GOP nomination. The media of course eats it up 24/7. For now, the dust has settled with no debates to remind people that the guy is an egomaniac and loose cannon. The real contest is in summer and fall, I look forward to a focused campaign with one-on one debates in front of a large national audience where Trump's record of demagoguery and divisiveness paired with his abrasive style will provide undecided voters with a basis for the choice they will be marking.

(2,052 posts)Should also dismiss that 72% figure of Sanders supporters who will actually vote for her that has been touted frequently. I mean, national polls are worthless right?
After the last few weeks, and toward the convention id be surprised if it were 50%
