Related: About this forumHillary Will Win the Primary and Lose the General Election
Once Hillary comes under full fire of the Trump slime machine, her negatives will be pushed to the highest of any presidential candidate. Combine that with extremely feeble support from alienated independent voters, and she'll lose narrowly in key swing states. Watch on election night as states like Florida and Ohio turn red; in fact, some formerly-blue states may be lost by a surprising margin.
There will be but one silver lining: this painful loss will vividly illustrate that 1990s-style triangulation, combined with the outrageous, dismissive attitudes of people like DWS, can no longer win elections. Yet, the Democratic party will continue to cling to these losing tactics until the bitter end, only adapting to the new world when inescapably forced to do so.

(17,201 posts)but I do believe that the Democratic party is on the wrong track. However, I don't think the "new" Dems care. Their goal is to pull the Dems as far to the right as possible, not to win elections.

(86,013 posts)...this one trumpeting the 'Trump slime machine' as the cause, while contradicting that prediction by insisting such a loss will be the result of Democratic party 'triangulation.'
I remember similar dire warnings about Obama in '08. The campaign isn't run in some little box full of whatever your personal peeve might be. It will take on dimensions of Trump's nonsense, but it will also be influenced by a united and strong Democratic party.
The other element is that the independents you're projecting, who didn't support Hillary because Sanders cornered them in the primary, will be free to support our nominee; and support her, they will, with a determination that Trump's republican party doesn't succeed.

I like the report today that says Trump made a deal to use 100s of foreign workers for his business.

(5,614 posts)I think Trump has an excellent chance to beat Secretary Clinton, as much as I wish it was not so.
Of course, I am a Berniac but I am also a voter who has been active in politics for 50 of my 70 years. What I see coming down the road is a campaign of lies and smears and vitriol such as we haven't seen since the days of Willie Horton or even earlier, the Goldwater nuke.
Secretary Clinton? Her main strength is that she is not Donald Trump.
Not good enough, Madame Secretary. All of the strengths you started out with last year will be negated with ease by the Chump campaign.
The voting public does not believe what the Powers That Be are trying to force down our throats. Sanders has taken the role of pointing out that the Emperor has no clothes. The question isn't whether the Sanders supporters will vote for Hillary. The question is why should anyone?
She'll have to come up with some good answers if she wants to beat the Trump machine. I don't think she can.
Both Canada and Ireland have made mention of welcoming US citizens who will flee the country if Trump is elected. Sort of describes the situation to a tee, from my point of view.

Our candidate will need to deal with a torrent of negative, personal attacks (and we thought they were bad in the past). It will be hard to argue policy with him since he is all over the map on almost every policy issue.
