2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumAll of these young men feeling the bern and feeling like something was taken from them in NV.
WTF???
Hillary won Nevada. Period.Full stop.
And they feel like something was being taken from them so they resort to threats of violence and misogyny? When they were the ones trying to take something away from someone else?
This is why Bernie needs to stop with the "rigged" bullshit. He's riling up his fans in not a good way, but with delusions.
Damn Bernie drop the fuck out.

(58,785 posts)a bad leader could easily take control of people like that and direct them destructively. Like many here on DU, not one made the slightest effort to understand what was going on and they have shamed the Democratic Party at a crucial time in history.
They were not entitled to their ignorance, much less to act on it.

(80,708 posts)Making threats against people- even vague ones, even oblique ones, even the kind where the person says "I didn't think it was a threat"- it's against the law.
And if Rolling Stone could track down who made the threats, so can the cops.
So let's see if actual charges are filed against these "verified identities" quoted in the article, or if this is just Rolling Stone making shit up again.

(36,225 posts)Do actual recordings or actual texted words help you form an opinion?
Warren DeMontague
(80,708 posts)printing some exceedingly shoddy journalism, of late.
So good, whoever actually left those messages or sent the texts should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Maybe they're even actually the same "people" quoted in the RS story. If charges are filed, we'll know for sure.

(375 posts)Not to drop out. Why not push the issues that the American people care about, as opposed to his supporters? Things like inequality, reining in Wall Street, and universal healthcare.
I think his supporters have something of a case on what happened in Nevada. Hopefully both sides will be smart enough to compromise when there is what I think will be the inevitable credentials challenge. But people see the violence and the threats. And however high-handed the procedures went, the results were a delegation that better reflected the results of the caucus vote. Not excusing anything, just saying that those outside the Bernie-sphere are likely to have trouble seeing it the same way they do.
Also, nothing in life is fair (at least not entirely), but the Bernie people are not being robbed. Hillary is ahead because more people decided to vote for her. That's not because the DNC scheduled too few debates and on Saturdays. Criticize that, but don't tell me it affected things all that much.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)Go read. A majority of the voters in Nevada chose Hillary Clinton. Bernie's delegates had absolutely no excuse for their resentment that Bernie had fewer delegates. Especially when nearly 500 of the 1000 Bernie supporters who said they would be there did not bother to turn up.
Arneoker
(375 posts)As do who I consider objective observers at Slate and TPM. They also note that the proceedings weren't entirely proper.
I support Hillary myself. But I think we need to try to take off our team blinders and look at things fairly. We often don't do that well here. I tend to see more of that problem on the Bernie side, but I think that is less important than my bigger point.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)schtick, in a pretense of fairness or otherwise.
For whatever reason, perhaps just carried away by determination to win at any cost, Bernie Sanders has betrayed his supporters, many of whom joined him because they believed he was an honorable man, by lying to them many times, repeatedly telling them they are being cheated, and encouraging a mob mood of intense resentment, frustration, and fury.
In the process he has embarrassed and weakened the Democratic Party at a crucial time in America's history. His and his unreasonably angry and hostile supporters' behavior shame the party.
THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR ANY OF THIS.
Let's be clear: His supporters were never justified in believing any of these lies before checking them out. By now they should all know that many phony charges have been made but were always proven false.
All these lies should also have automatically been considered in the context that Hillary has been winning the popular vote, the pledged delegate count, and the unpledged delegate count by very comfortable margins from the beginning and has no reason to cheat and every reason not to.
