2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe minute Bernie drops out, the rush to embrace him by the very dems excoriating
him, will be dizzying.
And no, he won't be losing committee assignments.
As for those of you who think it's a great idea to make the democratic party more restrictive, let me remind you that only 28% of voters are democrats. Not to mention that both parties are unpopular with independents. Not a good plan to grow the party.

Howard Dean said the same thing Friday night. Give him things now.

I, a decades-long supporter, cancelled my "evergreen" subscription with them a few weeks ago after one such incident and must confess how gratifying it was to hear their dismay over the phone (it was during pledge week.)

I share your opinion of Weaver. One doesn't have to "know" him to understand what's driving him.
Devine is just as bad - or worse. He's milking this for all it's worth.
Source for Don Henley quote, just because it's one of my favorites:

TwilightZone
(25,517 posts)Gallup is an outlier. If you look at more than one poll, Democrats are at 36% and climbing. Independents are down to about 31%. Democrats have been the largest voting bloc in the country since late December/early January.
This makes perfect sense, of course, if you use a little critical thinking. Independents are registering as Democrats and Republicans to vote in closed and semi-closed primaries. So, their numbers are dropping; the others are rising. Math.
Registration trend, based on 1200+ polls: http://elections.huffingtonpost.com/pollster/party-identification

(2,096 posts)and now the DNC wants to get rid of all those newly registered Democrats and have them become Independents once again.
TwilightZone
(25,517 posts)That's generally how it goes. Register to vote in primaries; switch back between for the street cred.
Sanders is a Democrat of convenience, so it shouldn't be surprising that many of his supporters would be the same. It makes logical sense to expect them to switch back after the election. Many are independents, at heart.

(1,446 posts)he increases the rhetoric (not truly condemning violence among his supporters, calling out the DNC) just to get back in the news cycle. I haven't heard him talk about his idealistic dreams for a long time.
That trip to the Vatican was purely ego, no matter how you try to spin it.

He talks about his "idealistic dreams" all the fucking time. YOU don't hear it because the media doesn't cover it, and all you know is what the MSM tells you.
The Vatican trip was Bernie's acceptance of an invitation to speak at an international conference on economic inequality -- a lifelong passion of Bernie's, in case you didn't know.
I'm getting the impression that you're not very well-informed.

(15,512 posts)But from listening to Boxer who used to talk about him in glowing terms, even when she was acting as a Hill surrogate, I get the strong impression that he's lost his luster as far as Democrats are concerned. They can win without him even if he goes 3rd party so he'll get what he deserves and not a lot more.
senz
(11,945 posts)It's just his supporters they're after now.
This may be something you cannot understand, but Bernie did not enter the primary for money, fame, and power. All he wanted was to get a political revolution started in our country.
As for what he deserves, he has already won the eternal gratitude of millions of unimportant little people like me, and I wouldn't be surprised to see his story written up in biographies, songs, and perhaps a movie. Because what Bernie has managed to accomplish is inspiring to the human spirit.

Bernie, otoh, does much better against Trump.
Or is your highest desire simply the installation of Hillary Clinton in the White House?
ucrdem
(15,512 posts)As usual he's running against the Democrat specifically Hillary using the turdblossom playbook. She's corrupt, she lies, Bill's a player, etc etc. We've heard it all before and surprise, it's working like magic all over again and having the same effect it was originally created for -- to turn Dems against their party. That's a problem.

(5,272 posts)of any non-token value. He's a thorn in the establishment side, so it surprises me that surrogates like Dean and Ford Jr. would be calling for this. it could be I'm wrong, but I don't think the DNC wants Sanders in a prominent place, and they would prefer to tarnish his reputation to the point where he fades back into relative obscurity and has no party soap box to stand on. It could be they think he might bite at something trivial, or that he might trade on his greater message for smaller concessions, but if that's the case, I hope they're wrong.
