2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIf Hillary is such a strong candidate...
Why doesn't she put Bernie away? Even with the Democratic Party machinery clearly stacked in her favor, she can't score a knockout victory. It's time to acknowledge that she's not a very good candidate and President Trump is a scary possibility. We scoffed at the idea of President Ronald Reagan in 1980.

(1,947 posts)again, we are tired of the wall st / war machine meme known as the seldom right wing of the democratic party.

(1,595 posts)said it 100 times. So what should we do? Give up the nomination of Hillary? No. Get on board with his agenda? We mostly already are. I don't know what he wants. Whatever it is, his chance has passed. IMO

(1,947 posts)DWS has already said she wasn't. And Hillary sought the money of Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, and Ted Cruz donors, but never fear, it's really an act and she will fight for us. In the mean time can I show you a bridge I've been trying to sell for some time? Be consistent , like those you support, seek a farther right policy to correct our mistakes. It should do wonders for bringing people to the tent.

(9,527 posts)I'll have to remember this ugly post the next time I hear some Sanders supporter whining about how Clinton supporters (and by that I mean anybody who doesn't fawn over Sanders) are.
You just implied that she's either an animal or the devil. Either should be unacceptable. And yet not one Sanders supporter has called you out on this bullshit.

(1,947 posts)she is a great candidate. I especially love the fracking part, but a close second is the awesome job she showed us with her regime change policies. Not knowing how to stand on keystone until President Obama acted showed us true leadership. and nobody, and I mean nbody can flip flop with the effectiveness of Her Corporate Majesty. She has learned a lot from the sniper fire she took to the trade policies she once spoke highly of, like NAFTA and TPP. We should all be proud of our very consistent Goldwater Girl. Have a good day.

(761 posts)If he has truly lost, he doesn't need you, but you need him. Keep treating him and his followers like shit. You are so accustomed to being able to ignore the progressive wing of the party without consequence that you are clueless in how to engage an energized left constructively. So you follow your instincts and attempt to crush the very people you need in the GE. It's not lost on us that you can be chummy with Kissinger and W and have no qualms triangulating with the GOP, but your only response to an energized left is the jack boot.
The movement will live on past this election. You have a moment of truth. Welcome us or continue to abuse us.

(4,311 posts)She's winning by more than Obama EVER was. She has more delegates AND more popular votes (which Obama didn't have) and she's got the support of the entire Democratic congress and will have President Obama by her side stumping.
With proportional allocation NO ONE can score a knockout victory. The Repubs have winner take all in a bunch of their states. That makes it a lot easier to declare a winner earlier.
Hillary is in an extremely strong position going into the convention and the GE. The primary is finished. The last shot Bernie had for a blowout was Oregon. Nevada was very bad for him. This is over.

Sanders has no path towards a nomination that doesn't include outright stealing the nomination from Hillary

(51,301 posts)The rules aren't the same as they are for the Republican Party. If they were Clinton would had wrapped up the nomination with Pennsylvania's votes and with Kentucky she would had received the majority without automatic delegates included.

timmymoff
(1,947 posts)because bobby kennedy was assassinated in june was some sort of acknowledgement of violence. Maybe that is why Sanders is staying in? What's good for the goose isn't good for the gander?

(45,251 posts)That does not bode well for the general. She is not a strong candidate. He is already polling within 3 points of her nationally too. That does not bode well for the general, either.
And if anyone thinks Trump's disrespect of women is going to neutralize Bill's, plus the "Lolita Express" allegations, he or she is dreaming. And heaven knows what else Trump will allege and/or dig up. Despite all the nonsense about vetting, she really has not had an election glove laid on her yet, or we would have known about some of this stuff years ago.

(456 posts)I just wonder what Sanders supporters end game is. Do they care about the message or the messenger? Their issue are more likely to be a achieved with a Pres. Clinton vs a Pres. Trump so what is this really about?

(45,251 posts)And by end game, I don't mean Philadelphia. The general is the end game. I think she would make a weak and very flawed general candidate. Always have.

(456 posts)I thought the issues that Bernie was talking for the American people was the most important thing. If a $15 min wage, Public college tuition, Medicaid for all, etc. were really important to his supporter then they would recognize it would be more likely to be achieved with a Sanders or Clinton presidency. Yet they seem to be more in love with Bernie the man more than the issues that would directly effect their lives.

(9,527 posts)the Republican process is designed to be finished sooner right? We have proportional primaries meaning a candidate like Sanders can stay in the race as it appears to be "close" even though there isn't a viable path to the nomination.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/politics/2016-election/primaries/explaining-the-presidential-primary-process/
But feel free to continue to cling desperately to the belief that some scandal is going to stop Clinton, even ones that involve hoping a former Democratic president has committed statutory rape of minors. It shows a lot about your character.
