2016 Postmortem

with Obama and is even more so today.
Jeff Zeleny after Wisconsin and his "breaking news" that the Clinton campaign was to disqualify Sanders was the turning point IMO. Nevada and those hateful Sanders supporters is the next step as media plays along.
There is nothing to do but acknowledge what is happening and whether you go along or not?

(3,111 posts)contenders can be that person, even Trump.
I believe that person will win.

(21,210 posts)it was anyone but Bush/Clinton.
Interesting how the Repubs were quick to gauge the support, or lack thereof, of a Bush/Clinton ticket, and then let an outsider (Trump) take hold.
But our party has been clinging to 30 year old policies and expecting everyone to go along.
We should be asking who is the fool?

They are misjudging the mood of the country, the electorate, their ability to have Bernie supporters "simply go along", the relative success of their "moderate, some would say regressive" policies since late Bill Clinton.
They will succeed in blowing this is they do not get with the program and run a Progressive campaign, taking into account that the Reagan Revolution is over and people are eager for a clear and opposite substitute.

(21,210 posts)so we have the younger generation researching and being aware and the older generation already aware and they are discussing issues.
Why is the generation of 30 and 40 year olds not on board?
Maybe they have not YET shelled out hundreds of thousands of dollars for college or they have not felt the crushing medical debt that can hit anyone of us at an time.
But what we need to understand is that in order to sustain a strong nation the majority of people must be doing OK with some hope of upward mobility, without that, all aspirations for a better future are lost.
It is that middle core/class which needs to be sustained for a future, not sure the Establishment gets it.

(375 posts)Really?
Populist maybe, but then George Wallace was a populist.
But Progressive?
highprincipleswork
(3,111 posts)behind him. But yes, he has put forth some ideas that can be considered Progressive, Populist, or both. Anti-trade bills, protection of the American worker, etc.
In the worst case scenario where Hillary and the PTB continue to flog long-stale ideas of curbing their Liberal message and abandoning their more Liberal base in favor of courting what used to be Reagan Republicans, Trump could in some instances, these and even in foreign affairs, appear to be more Liberal than Hillary. He would not be the only Republican winning or doing well by advocating something Liberal, while so many of his policies are absolutely regressive.

(1,065 posts)They messed that up. They're trying to disqualify US, his supporters. Not him.
They're trying to defeat us now, not Bernie.
And I think they got the "Unify Later mixed up and they're unifying with Republicans.

(39,451 posts)They keep piling on Bernie supporters and then think we are supposed to just forget it and support her.
It's insane. They keep pushing us away. The non-stop lies about NV & why the Bernie supporters were upset & without one mention of the Hillary fan that was arrested for assault really crossed the line tonite.
TG for Van Jones for possibly being the only talking head on a cable news show with a brain.
Someone on twitter posted that Maddow had a cartoon of a duck throwing a chair to describe Bernie supporters.
I've had it.

(21,210 posts)I agree WE ARE being defeated and expected to just go along once again, but we have been doing that for decades and unifying with Republicans
... well it is a big club.

(375 posts)If you think that those who get less votes should dictate terms.
I do think that Hillary should seriously appeal to Bernie supporters (the majority who I trust are rational and who have the right perspective on what are the important issues, that is) and progressives in general. But she will get to make the key decisions.

(68,788 posts)Bernie is behaving almost as badly as some of his supporters.
