2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumVery very strange strategy by establishment DNC
Am amazed the route they have taken on this NV convention issue. First they blatantly steal it. And instead of trying to defuse the situation they use this as an opportunity to denigrate Bernie and his supporters.
For what aims? We have being told the primary is over and there is no way Bernie can win. If this is the case, what is the upside of antagonizing Bernie and his supporters? Wouldnt the most logical approach even if you think they are in the right and the assholes are Bernie/his supporters to play this down, and try to unite the party ahead of the general?
My theory. 1) DNC and the whole lot are incompetent. How can else can you explain losing so many seats in congress and statehouse? 2) Through their incompetence, they think they can strong arm Bernie and his supporters through submission. What they don't realize is the Bernie campaign is being fueled by the hate for the establishment, including the current iteration of the DNC, and actions like this only embolden further hate for the DNC.

(23,720 posts)which is to destroy Bernie Sanders. Don't think for one minute that HRC, the DNC and their minions isn't behind what happened in NV.
How better to destroy him than to plant protesters who attempt to incite violence?

obviously some different measure of success applies.
perhaps some broader goal?

(24,979 posts)and no one has produced evidence otherwise. Assuming by "protesters" we mean the side with the reason to protest, the Sanders supporters.
The main violence committed was in the form of violence against process and democracy, by the chair.
The incitement was in the rules violations from the chair and then the crowning fuck-you performance from the California lady on the big screen. Which of course was protested, as it would be by anyone with self-respect.
And Camp Clinton and Corporate Media put a spin on it and turned protest into "violence."

(38,609 posts)So that it looks like the only bad thing about the Nevada Democratic Convention was Bernie Sanders. They would LOVE that to be the takeaway. So would the MSM.

Now, since I reported what I heard I have seen video that makes it seem a bit more violent than that caller said.

(14,255 posts)It kind of feels like the GOP has indicated they would rather see Hillary than Trump as president, and, maybe, have guaranteed GOP votes? There honestly is not anything the HRC camp can say about ANYTHING that would get me to vote for a Third Way Corporate hawk. Maybe they are cutting their losses while letting their inherent ugliness out for all to see.

(2,872 posts)they are "all in" (pun intended) on this NV thingy.. it's the start of a broader plan, with Boxer involved they may have something brewing in California as well..
I hope Bernie does well tonight.. maybe that is also a source for distraction, maybe internals aren't looking so rosey - she did stump in Kentucky after all..

(4,407 posts)It seems to me that the establishment, including DWS, Hillary, and many others, really and truely don't understand that many people don't like the shit they're doing. It may be that they don't care, and they ignore it. Seeing all the Hill supporters around here, there's a definite sense that they believe they are right, in a religious sort of way. "Democrat" is more of a worship word, and policy ideas really don't matter except as a way to push their candidate. If those positions change, they'll follow right along.
Then they accuse us of wanting "free stuff" and of being Thugs, in the same sense that Trayvon Martin was called a thug. It's the same language used by the true-believer conservatives, who will follow and defend their people no matter what.
Worship, blind adulation, and blindly following the party/religion are exactly what we don't need.

(2,388 posts)In fact, Clinton is appealing to the Bush familys donors and moderate Republicans, rather than pivoting to bring in the legions of Bernie Sanders supporters she needs to win the general election. Barring a miracle, it seems unlikely the Democratic Party is willing to move left and is instead banking on prevailing in November by bringing in establishment Republicans.

(15,064 posts)If Trump is willing to pretend to be someone else, he's willing to ok Lee Atwater type tactics. Personally I think he is using October surprise tactics and obviscation right now. Sending up trial baloons, straw men and using scorched earth is the trait of an insecure narcissistic psychopath. And he is definitely one.

(110,159 posts)* Based on the county convention results, Bernie Sanders had 2,124 delegate slots to the State Convention and Hillary Clinton had 1,722 delegate slots to the State Convention.
* On Saturday at the State Convention, after all of the alternates were seated, Hillary Clinton filled 1,695 of her delegate slots and Bernie Sanders only filled 1,662 at the State Convention giving Clinton a 33-delegate margin of victory.
* Clinton only had 27 delegate positions vacant on Saturday. Sanders left 462 vacant. Clinton filled 98 percent of her available delegate slots at the State Convention, and Sanders only filled 78 percent of his available delegate slots.
* In plain terms, the Clinton campaign organized and got nearly all of their delegates to the State Convention. The Sanders campaign did not.
* The remaining potential delegates were ineligible for two main reasons: 1) They were not registered Democratic voters in Nevada by May 1, 2016, and 2) Their information such as address, date of birth and name could not be found or identified, and they did not respond to requests from the party and campaigns to correct it.
* Only eight of the ineligible delegates even attempted to register at the State Convention.
* The so-called minority report about these ineligible delegates was not written by the Credentials Committee it was written by national Sanders campaign staff on site. A member of Sanders National Delegate Operations Team drafted and arranged for a member of that committee to attempt to deliver an incendiary report that caused chaos and violence at the convention. It was inaccurate, misleading and subsequently discredited by the Credentials Committee.
* The Credentials Committee, the panel that made decisions on these issues, was co-chaired by supporters of both campaigns and the membership of the committee was also equally divided between supporters of both campaigns. This was done to ensure that the entire process was fair, transparent and accountable for both campaigns and their supporters. The committee worked diligently and cooperatively all day, under incredibly trying circumstances, to be fair and impartial in its work.
