(Update/clarification: This situation escalated out of control when Roberta Lange, Chairwoman of the Nevada State Democratic Party & member of the national DNC Executive Committee subjectively called the results of a voice vote, adjourned the meeting using a gavel, and left. According to a Democratic Party spokesman, the national party or its Chair, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, "did not have a part in this."

(20,785 posts)No attempt was made to listen to the crowd for a real voice vote, or to hold a serious vote, and she ran out the door!
Does that sound legal to you??
These people forget that everyone has a cell phone in their pocket these days. This is despicable.

(112,619 posts)The closing is legal if the business of the convention is concluded. No laws were broken. All that can be heard is noise and if the chair believes that she has the aye votes to closed the convention then she acted properly no matter how much noise there is.

(20,785 posts)But there are enough unclear statements in this WAPO article to leave room for an entirely different story: It appears that the party was breaking rules right and left in order to keep the Bernie delegates from voting, giving the win to HRC.
This smells. I mean, like rotten eggs.
I'm waiting for a statement from Bernie on this.

(20,785 posts)Lots of booing, and rule changes. Over 50 Bernie delegates weren't allowed into the caucus at the last minute. The DNC claimed they were registered as republicans. How could that be?

Sanders supporters sue Nevada Democratic Party
The eight plaintiffs applied for election to the state partys executive board and had their applications denied by party chair Roberta Lange and its executive director Zach Zaragoza who are also named as defendants in the lawsuit after the applicants missed the April 25 filing deadline, according to the lawsuit. The lawsuit states that the plaintiffs were under the impression that the filing deadline was April 29 after reading a document titled Final Election Rules.
The plaintiffs allege that the party, Lange, and Zaragoza kept the April 25 deadline secret and that such an action not only violates the partys internal rules but also Nevada election law. The lawsuit asks that the court allow any applicants who filed by April 29 to run for party office, as well as for attorney fees and damages.

UPDATE: Nevada Democrats fight allegations of unfairness
By AP | Posted: Sat 9:22 AM, May 14, 2016 | Updated: Sun 9:20 AM, May 15, 2016
A member of the convention credentials committee presented a "minority report" after the announcement, criticizing the committee's decision to disqualify nearly 60 potential Sanders delegates and saying it didn't align with Democratic values.
Party officials said the ineligible Sanders supporters weren't registered as Democrats by a May 1 deadline or didn't provide necessary personal information. They said eight would-be Clinton supporters were also disqualified.
The state party said it abided by rules adopted by Clinton and Sanders supporters alike.

(6,007 posts)and was going to their convention as a Bernie delegate, only somehow, from the time they voted until the convention, SOMEHOW her voter registration was changed to Republican and they said she could not participate.
This sounds familiar.
