(18,115 posts)He can still win the vote and can still win if something happens. Hillary stayed in so long in 2008 for the same reasons.
metroins
(2,550 posts)But he should stop giving people false hope, collecting large donations for a failed run and most certainly stop attacking Hillary.
I think it's healthy for Sanders to stay in, but it's very unhealthy to hurt the party.
I also am disgusted by the fundraising from poor people then giving the money to large corporations, Devine/Weaver and wasting it like he's going to win. That money would be better off in the donors pockets or helping down ticket candidates or helping Hillary win the GE.
The continued fundraising for his failed presidential bid literally makes me sick, yes literally, correctly used. I feel such empathy (or is it sympathy?) for the donors who don't realize he lost 2 months ago.
In February and March it was honest, in April it started to get sad and in May it just feels wrong and fraudulent.

(3,111 posts)Till then, deal with it.
Why don't you spend your time making sure Hillary stays Progressive enough to attract half the votes she will need if she does become the candidate.
metroins
(2,550 posts)She's already handily beat Sanders.
I've got a job that is going pretty well already.
highprincipleswork
(3,111 posts)or not. We're certainly not asking him to drop out. In fact, I'm insisting that he stay in, as long as he possibly can.
And to do that effectively, he needs to raise money, three million dollars just recently from what I read. Using folks that worked for obama in 2008.
Bravo!

(6,551 posts)Metroins can post about anything having to do with the primaries as long as it does not violate DU rules.

(6,282 posts)Please Bernie, stop raising money and winning primaries, it is bad for the poor! I don't support you and never have, but I think it is my place to criticize where the campaign goes and what it stands for and works towards.
^^ It's pretty rich and over the top. That is what the GP was speaking to.

(11,636 posts)Bernie can't win at this point, and his ultra-expensive managers Weaver and Devine know it. What will become of them if Sanders packs it up?
Also, Hillary Clinton is not only progressive enough, she has worked out how to properly pay for all of her proposals. She made sure each was doable before she trotted them out publicly as part of her platform. Maybe "half the votes she will need" that you allude to are not nearly half, and come from people who put ideology ahead of practicality. They need to be the ones to figure things out.

(3,457 posts)The issues that he is fighting for are too important to give up on. Just because his (and our) persistence doesn't please Hillary fans is just unfortunate for them.

(3,411 posts)And furthermore, his supporters are old enough to vote - so they are old enough to read the stats. Saying it's dishonest is a Brock tactic. Voters have the right to go to the finish line with the candidate of their choice. 'Taint over 'til it is done. At the convention with votes tallied.
What is more dishonest is infantilizing adult damned voters with remarks like that.

(4,451 posts)Saying you still have a chance to win the nomination IS
highprincipleswork
(3,111 posts)The rest of you can go do crossword puzzles or something, if you're too anxious about all this.
Or you could try to help Hillary understand that she would be better off keeping her Progressive bona fides, such as they are, if she wants to win this election.
It's not post-Reagan anymore. It's almost post-Obama. And we need someone to continue and to further Progressive causes, not go back to the same old triangulating and bait and switch that used to disempower so many people
We feel empowered around Bernie, and we would/could feel empowered around Hillary if we sensed there was half a chance she would be as "Progressive" as you all sometimes claim she is.

(35,619 posts)John Kasich only won one state but reporters didn't call him dishonest for saying he might win.
They do that to Bernie Sanders because he's fighting the establishment.
procon
(15,805 posts)They do it to Bernie because he's losing and very close to becoming a spoiler. If he wants to see some of his key issues survive his inevitable withdrawal, he should start negotiating while he still retains some clout.

(18,115 posts)And you have no idea whether and what negotiations or discussions have taken place. You only assume because it doesn't seem to fit your expectations.

(58,724 posts)Kasich was regularly mocked on CNN for staying in when he had no chance. They would jokingly say that he was 4th in a 3 person race.

(9,385 posts)Of cours Sanders can win. Neither will win before the convention, so obviously Roberts' statement is nonsense, which is intended to negatively impact Sanders' support.
I'm sure it's not working but it's still a fraudulent move by Roberts. Cosigning that here is what it is.

(39,451 posts)with what has happened to our political system and having been waiting for decades for someone to come along a represent what I believe in.
And after decades, I finally have a Presidential candidate that speaks for me.
I am not giving up on that fight until someone reaches 2383 *pledged* delegates or until every primary is completed.
Even if Bernie loses, I am still not giving up the fight. I will focus on down ticket races & the 2018 midterms.
This is not a sporting event, as the msm likes to portray. We are electing a President.
I am so glad I turned off msnbc month ago. Even CNN is better, which says a lot.

(2,145 posts)MSNBC keeps interviewing themselves/each other. Have you noticed that? Every show it is the same guests over and over. And Lawrence preaching minute after minute. CNN has been refreshing. And I love their primary panels with guests from both sides always including Van Jones or Bill Press. Guests that support Trump, Clinton and Sanders - usually two supporters for each candidate. Makes for a far more interesting discussion.
MSNBC speaks to the sheep that want to hear all about their candidate and no one else.
