(2,054 posts)Or are you just against Hillary releasing the transcripts of her Wall Street speeches?
Please explain what point you wish to make.

(1,446 posts)In our country, things people do as private citizens are their own private business, like it or not. I agree that it would end a lot of speculation for Hillary to release her transcripts, but I don't think she is under any ethical obligation to do so, and my bet is that she is holding out for something bigger than just the tax returns from a guy who is losing to her in the primary.

(934 posts)Hillary should release her transcripts as long as Sanders releases the transcripts of his speeches to the financial sector, large-dollar donors at the retreats that he and Jane hosted in exchange for Democratic funding for his senate races.

Releasing tax information is something which every candidate does. The ones who refuse have something to hide. I believe both Trump and Sanders should release their tax returns, just like Hillary has.
Why did you only ask for Trump to release his taxes, and not Sanders?

(2,054 posts)Do you think that Bernie is hiding his vast fortunes and multiple mansions from public scrutiny?
By the way, Bernie released his tax returns from last year and Trump refuses to.
You didn't know that?
And do you think that Secretary Clinton should continue to conceal her Wall Street speech transcripts?
lunamagica
(9,967 posts)(just as Trump is) Why not release them, if he has nothing to hide?
About the transcripts, I believe Hillary is keeping them for the GE and use it as a card against Trump in the GE

(2,054 posts)So do you think she will use them to prove that she is a better representative of Wall Street billionaires than Trump?
My god, where in the world did you get an idea like that?
And if that's not her objective what do you think it is?

(9,967 posts)You are demanding that Trump releases his taxes, but it is perfectly OK with you if Sanders doesn't?
It doesn't matter what it's on the taxes. All candidates release them The fact that he doesn't makes it look like he is hiding something.

(2,054 posts)And Sanders did release his tax forms for last year. Trump hasn't.

You know, show me yours and I'll show you mine" kind of deal.
Now will you answer the question? Is it OK with you if Sanders doesn't release his tax returns? You know that a year isn't enough.
He -like the rest of the candidates- need to release decades ling tax returns.
What is he hiding?

(53,112 posts)A single year of returns. Moreover, he promised to release several years and didn't. He has had plenty of time to remedy that situation but clearly has decided that releasing them would hurt what is left of his campaign.
Your argument that transparency should be expected only from politicians you dislike, while those you favor should not be held to the same standards, Is a losing one. The notion that some people are just too superior to abide by common standards is one that will be rejected by anyone who cares about transparency, citizens right to know, and equal standards.
The fact is Sanders has made it easier for Trump to refuse to release his taxes since he and his supporters have repeatedly justified double standards. Thanks to Bernie and his supporters, politicians now feel empowered to conceal their financial dealings from the public. You all can take credit for that, as well as the mainstreaming NRA justifications for immunity for gun Corporations. Now no one can say Bernie hasn't had an impact of the political process. Take credit for your efforts on behalf of the ruling class' secrecy over citizens' right to know. It's not everyday citizens are able to influence their elected leaders into increased secrecy and less transparency.

(2,054 posts)Why are you defending Trump's refusal to release his returns for last year when Bernie and Jane have released theirs.
Secretary Clinton has not demanded that Bernie and Jane release their returns for the past 30 years.
She has simply demanded that Trump release his tax returns for last year.
I take it you disagree with her demand.
And it appears that you support her refusal to release her Wall Street transcripts and you call that transparency!!!
Is that correct?

(67,782 posts)Tax returns have been released by candidates for decades, and by law they have to submit FEC Personal Financial Disclosures.
Has anyone ever been requested to release transcripts before?
Any answers?

(19,460 posts)How about his FEC transparency? How about where he got the money for his trip to Rome?
MrMickeysMom
(20,453 posts)So far, Bernie Sanders income, equal to that which was compensated for one of her speeches, plus his campaign finances are as open as everything he's ever done for over 30 years.
What we are talking about in this election is why a Wall Street Agency would pay someone chronically running for the presidency such a high compensation.
One of these things are not like the other. One of these things is suspect for the kind of presidency that continues corporate control over the United States of America. And, you are okay with that.
What does THAT say? It says that you have not demonstrated jack shit about knowing anything of FEC transparency. You wouldn't know it if it bit you on the tush.

(24,162 posts)She release her tax returns, going back years. Neither of her opponents have released theirs.
She's saying (to Trump, especially), let's level the playing field first. Then we can go from there.
Why? Because she's not stupid. This is just asking for more grist for the rumor-mill.
