"Remarkably, voters think Hillary Clinton is more dishonest than Donald Trump"

Bernie Takes West Virginia
May 11, 2016
by Robert Borosage

West Virginia really likes Bernie Sanders. He swept the Democratic primary yesterday, winning 51.4 percent to Clinton’s 36 percent, even in the face of the mainstream media essentially declaring the race over.

Sanders won across the board. CNN exit polls show him winning men 53-35 and women 50-38. He won the young big again, and even edged Clinton among seniors. He won the college educated and the non-college educated (60 percent of the electorate). Over one-third of the voters were self-described independents, and he won those by more than two to one (58-22). He won voters most concerned about the economy, health care and inequality. He won those most favorable to a candidate who is honest (69-21), and who cares about people like them (59-23). Clinton once more won those most concerned about experience (75-23) but they were barely one-fifth of the electorate.

Sanders vows to keep going to the end. If he continues to win – particularly if he culminates by winning the diverse Democratic vote in California, he’ll make the case to Democratic super delegates that he would be the strongest candidate in the general. Sanders fares better than Clinton against Trump in poll after poll.

Democrats and the Clinton campaign have to be sobered by this week’s Quinnipiac polls showing Trump – even as a quarter of Republicans say they won’t vote for him – running neck and neck with Clinton in Pennsylvania and Ohio. Trump’s alienation of women (Clinton leads by double digits, 19 percent in Pennsylvania) is countered or exceeded by his margins among men. Both are unpopular, with her negatives now matching or exceeding his. Remarkably, voters think she is more dishonest than the Donald. Trump leads in all three states as the one most qualified to handle the economy, the most serious issue in the election. Trump leads among seniors; Clinton among the young. She’ll need Sanders’ energy to insure that they actually turn out to vote.

Theyndon't really, that's just their way of rationalizing why they won't vote for her. nt Jitter65 May 2016 #1

You're right. Most voters really love her, especially those who work on Wall Street. imagine2015 May 2016 #3

In fact, you're the only person I've heard expressing that idea!

Maybe that's what you'd like to believe but there is absolutely no evidence that's why most voters dislike her and think she is dishonest.

Perhaps if she released her Wall Street transcripts that would help her combat the feeling she has something to hide and is dishonest.

Isn't that right?

I hope you agree and are also encouraging her to release the transcripts.

Are you against that?

Travelgate, Whitewater, destroying the WH, and all of the other manufactured 'crimes' the Moonie News propaganda machine has crafted and furthered over the years.

The right wing crap I've ignored over the years, it's 99% propaganda. The right wingers will believe it, just like they believed that every Democratic Senator who ran for President was the "#1 most liberal Democrat in the Senate!!!" (even when they served in the Senate together like Kerry and Obama).

On the left though, it's seeing Clinton constantly change positions, to the point where it's impossible to say what her core beliefs are. Her championing center-right economic policies over environmental policies(fracking and TPP), her apparent eagerness for military rather than diplomatic solutions(Iraq war resolution, Libya, No Fly Zone over Syria) a lack of regard for democracy (Honduras). Pandering on the campaign trail which doesn't work well in the age of smart phones and youTube. Clinton like many DLC Democratic politicians considers herself a "fiscal conservative and social liberal". That's a moderate republican from the late 60's early 70's, but not a progressive Democrat, and when she claims to be progressive, that comes off as a lie too.

I'll also go on record saying that questions about "honesty" or "authenticity" are useless, and probably bad predictors of voting behavior on a good day, and actively misleading at worst.

Quit avoiding it. Just give us a damn answer. The standards she set are met. Fine, if she wants to back out and say no, I won't release them. Okay. Just say it. THAT'S why no one trusts her.

Just quit speaking lawyer for a second, damn.

I don't think the electorate is in much of a mood to put up with much of the Clinton's cutsey avoidance of answering a question anymore.

And yes, I know I phrased that much like Bubba's famous response. But it's appropriate, since, once again, it's going to be another "two for one" co-presidency. Bubba 3 1/2 or Hillary 1 1/2, take your pick. The the only difference is that this time, she's "Ms. Outside" while he's "Mr. Inside".

Don't believe it?

During a campaign event this week, presidential candidate Hillary Clinton capitalized on the nostalgic popularity of Bill Clinton when she told a room full of supporters that she plans to put Bill to work because he has so many “good ideas.”

Clinton was talking extensively about trade, an issue that she has gotten a fair amount of push-back on from opponent Bernie Sanders. While Sanders opposes the Trans-Pacific partnership and rails against NAFTA, Clinton has always supported these trade deals.

But just because you feel Clinton has bad judgement on trade doesn’t mean that she can’t put someone even worse behind that wheel. Clinton said that when it comes to trade, a President Hillary Clinton would call on the first husband to broker deals and “be in charge.”

I feel the same way about her. She seems to me like she has no core values. because she changes her opinion constantly to appeal to whatever group shes trying to get something from at any given moment. Trump is impulsive and says whatever offending large groups of people which may or may not be an act but it comes off to many as honest.

since I don't actually "know", and have never met, either one of them....not ever likely too either.

But on policy and who would be a better President, I can honestly say that neither suits my fancy.
