Bernie supporters float fake image of "Bernie rally" in California

Havana Scrub
A viral photograph does not show a massive Bernie Sanders rally in California, but rather a May Day march in Havana.
By Kim LaCapria

<...>

ORIGIN:In early May 2016, the above-reproduced image began circulating on Facebook, featuring a huge gathering of individuals and a caption: "NOTHING TO SEE HERE, JUST A BERNIE RALLY IN CALIFORNIA."

One popular version of this photograph was published on 7 May 2016. (Neither a date nor details were given for the purported Bernie Sanders rally.) In actuality, though, the image didn't depict either a location in California, nor was a Bernie Sanders rally. A reverse image search quickly led to the original — a photograph of a May Day march in Havana, Cuba — as well as indication that the person who made the meme was being deceitful:

<...>

The miscaptioned "Bernie rally" image wasn't the first of its kind; in April 2016, a similar photograph of a demonstration in Paris a year earlier circulated with a claim that the image depicted a huge gathering of Sanders supporters in New York.

Here at DU, a Bernie fan posted it and even said it was fake, but the respondents all cheered with oooo's and aaaaah's at the size of the crowd.

May 2016

I've never seen this photo before.

Supposedly this is a "viral photo" that Sander's supporters manufactured. A "viral photo" that no one has seen, but suddenly shows up, out of nowhere.

Yup. This has paid Brock-Brat fingerprints all over it. I'm sure one of them created the photo and the phony story to go along with it.

I'm a district/state delegate for Bernie. I've got more than 100 Bernie activists/delegates/campaign volunteers/staff on my FB page. I also belong to at least 20 Bernie-related FB pages--some for delegates only. I'm also connected to many Sanders supporters on Twitter. First time I've see that "viral" photo.

I guarantee you, this is a Brock-Brat manufactured lie.

It also comes during a time when Bernie will be organizing many large, impressive and successful rallies all over the country, in states where he is favored to win. Bernie will surely be attracting some enormous crowds.

This lie-based meme was concocted to cast doubt on Bernie's crowd sizes, as he is poised to attract some of the most impressive crowds of his campaign, thus far.

Hillary has trouble drawing decent crowds. Furthermore, she seems to be having problems with thousands of protesters showing up at her rallies.

I think this fake photo is their pathetic response to all of that.

There are a number of websites where you can create memes and paste words on a photo.

However, the photo itself was deceptively photoshopped as pointed out by snopes.

I'm guessing those didn't work out too well, so now you're down to mere allegations lacking any substantive evidence or objective measures (though if I'm wrong and you supply the objective evidence supporting your claim, I'll certainly stand back, apologize and take my leave-- but that's simply not going to happen, hm?)

When I saw this, of course the crowds aren't that big. For any candidate. I took it too mean a poke at MSM and Bernie's opponent trying to downplay his support. Obviously, he does get bigger rallies than Hillary. So I looked at this and immediately got the ribbing. Everybody else took it seriously? Really?

What's wrong with people? This is the strangest primary I've ever encountered.
