"The State Department says in a new court filing that it can find no emails to or from a former Hillary Clinton aide who worked for the agency and also managed Clinton's private computer server during her stint as secretary of state.
The revelation was in a filing Monday by government lawyers for the department in a response to a lawsuit by the Republican National Committee. The GOP group had sued over its public records request for all work-related emails sent to or received by Clinton's former aide, Bryan Pagliano, between 2009 and 2013, covering most of Clinton's tenure.
Pagliano was offered immunity by the Justice Department in its continuing investigation into Clinton's server and emails and whether they violated national security laws"

Unlike Clinton, Brian actually had and used a government email account.

(8,541 posts)court. Supposedly his pst file was deleted. Very strange indeed and when taken into account his lack of oversight at the State Dept is troubling.

(8,311 posts)... no wonder it's going to hell.
I've blown PSTs and been glad I had been archiving my backups and set Outlook to leave my messages on the server, but didn't the State Department have better backups of emails that went through state.gov addies?
And what about PSTs from people who should have sent him emails?
All I can say is that I'm glad the State Department has addressed some of the problems, and I hope this investigation does start making IT security more of a priority for federal agencies.

(8,541 posts)It's definitely interesting.
I ran servers for a tiny local newspaper and I used to have 2 backups in house on to tape and other on a file server and a 3rd off site. And I routinely backed up to a 3rd computer under my desk not in server room. Hell NAS are dirt cheap. Clinton would only need to say the Word "The" in a speech to Wall Street and that would earn her enough to have 2-3 backups.

(30,613 posts)She must have had some powerful motivation to keep her emails hidden from the Government. I wonder what percentage of them are still hidden.

(50,130 posts)Of course it's more complicated than that.
But when a department is obfuscating and stonewalling a criminal investigation....what is the remedy for that?
There appears to be Watergate-level actions going on in Obama's administration, even as we speak.

But thanks for providing a nice example of the hair on fire nonsense I was referring to.

(8,541 posts)The Department has located a .pst from Mr. Paglianos recent work at the Department as a contractor, but the files are from after Secretary Clinton left the State Department. We have not yet located a .pst that covers the time period of Secretary Clintons tenure, said Alec Gerlach, a State Department spokesman."

(51,328 posts)Are phone calls also on the server? If they communicate by phone calls or in person how do they think that will end up on a server?
