2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumAs a Bernie supporter, I wish Bernie fans would stop interrupting Hillary speeches....
As I would hope Hillary fans would not interrupt Bernie!
It is rude to the 100s of people there to see Hillary talk.
Hold up your signs, yell all you want outside the venue, but let her supporters enjoy their rally.
We are both on the same side, to defeat the GOP.

(12,689 posts)They are all about trying to shut Clinton up and force her to defer to Sanders even though she has more votes. I believe that people should show exactly who they are.

(5,761 posts)She is GOP-lite and sorry when you cater to Bush donors and get endorsements from the Koch's, your transformation to becoming Bob Dole is complete.
People are downright pissed. People are struggling to make ends meat and Hillary can't even support universal health care or a living wage. Conservative Dems and Republicans built this.

(10,164 posts)Disrupting events like that is counterproductive and somewhat anti-democratic. Let her have her say, let her supporters (the handful that show up to her rallies, anyway) have their event.
pinebox
(5,761 posts)This wasn't anti-Democratic.
Protests are the core of Democracy.
Lizzie Poppet
(10,164 posts)Disrupting a person or group's ability to state their case is profoundly anti-democratic.

(5,761 posts)Sorry but protests are protests, just like how Trump had to wiggle his way through a fence in order to avoid protesters.
Lizzie Poppet
(10,164 posts)Isn't it cool that we both get to express that opinion without a "protest" preventing us?
pinebox
(5,761 posts)Hard to have a protest online though, eh?

Breaking laws is often justifiable and even responsible. But not drowning out someone else's contrary POV.

(643 posts)I've made a list on many of my thread listing the numerous votes, issues, and stances by HRC that are simply republican. There's no other way to put it. If you're offended by this, sorry- I'll be happy to repost those issues but I think they don't matter to HRC supporters, or else they wouldn't be HRC supporters...
That said, I do agree that freedom to speak should be allowed. I'm not a fan of drowning out someone who is trying to get their message heard, whether we agree with it or not.
Lizzie Poppet
(10,164 posts)It's a tactic I despise, and is at best borderline un-American/antidemocratic.

(14,498 posts)Even Trump has a legal and moral right to speak and be heard.
I'm surprised Sanders people are involved in this. Who, what when, where?

(10,478 posts)Trump is a race-baiting demagogue, and I support any acts of civil disobedience that interrupt his tirades at every opportunity.
Smarmie Doofus
(14,498 posts)He has a legal and moral right to speak. Whether you or I like it or not.
Tarc
(10,478 posts)The 1st amendment protects speech from being interfered with by the government, not individuals. Obviously protesters will be arrested and charged with disorderly conduct or similar, but that's not "violating his legal right to speak" in a free speech sense.
Morally, I think people can and should shout down a racist ideologue. This is a 21st-century Hitler we're talking about here.
As a Hillary supporter, I applaud any from this side or from Bernie's camp who disrupt that asshats pontificating.

(175 posts)I don't think it can be controlled. That's the way our society has become. The majority of the people are polarized and have been manipulated to believe that compromise is a bad thing. I believe that the our country is turning into 2 extremes - the growing rich and the growing poor - and everyone is being taught to hate the other side. I don't know how it will end.
