https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-politics/wp/2016/05/04/trump-accuses-clinton-of-starting-birther-movement/So it begins. I think this will get ugly fast.
Donald Trump on Wednesday accused Hillary Clinton of starting the so-called birther movement, which raised unfounded questions about President Obamas birthplace and American citizenship.
You know who started the birth movement? You know who started it? Do you know who questioned his birth certificate, one of the first? Hillary Clinton, Trump told CNNs Wolf Blitzer Wednesday. Shes the one that started it. She brought it up years before it was brought up by me.
The real estate mogul was responding to video footage of Clinton blasting Trump for questioning where the president was born and demanding that he release his birth certificate.
The leading Republican contender is the man who led the insidious birther movement to discredit the presidents citizenship, Clinton said during a campaign event Sunday.
Trump dismissed those claims, repeating an oft-cited but debunked suggestion that Clinton herself was the first to question Obamas birthplace. Several independent fact-checkers investigated the claims and concluded that they were unfounded. FactCheck.org wrote last year that, [w]hile its true that some of her ardent supporters pushed the theory, there is no evidence that Clinton or her campaign had anything to do with it.
Pressed on where he stood with regards to the presidents birthplace today, Trump said that hes not interested in discussing the issue further.
I dont talk about it anymore because every time I talk about it, it becomes a story, so I dont want to waste my time talking about it anymore, Trump said.

I remember when he started this mess. Apparently you have a shorter memory.

That's what he does. He lies and says nasty, horrible and disgustingly ugly things.
I'm sorry if his stupid buffoonery somehow scares you, but he is going to help get a Democrat elected by a landslide.

(12,037 posts)3. The rumor started with Clinton supporters.
Did Clinton know what her supporters were saying? Who knows?

If by "Busted" you mean Hillary has been "busted," I'd say "not so much."
