from TIME:
Hillary Clinton called the Zika virus a serious and urgent threat to the U.S. on Friday. In a post on the question-and-answer website Quora, she wrote: To put it simply, theres a lot we need to doand fast. We dont yet know everything about this disease, but what were learning is alarming.
There have been more than 900 confirmed cases of the virus in the U.S. and its territories, Clinton wrote. On Friday, officials reported the first death in Puerto Rico linked to the virus, which has also been connected to birth defects.
Clinton called for more public education about the virus dangers, the development of a rapid diagnostic test, investment in treatment and a vaccine, better mosquito control and abatement, and improved access to health and family planning services.
We need to do everything we can to fight Zikabut we cant do that without adequate resources, she wrote. Congress should immediately provide emergency funding for Zika testing and treatment, mosquito control, family planning, and to support maternal and infant health.

Explanation: I would vote to hide posts that include personal-gossipy-type smears; but this is about her allegedly pro-war policies. Whether I agree or not, I don't vote to hide attacks on policies.

When was the last time anyone said a word about that after the election?

(146,350 posts)It wound down, because of all of the time, energy, and funding that went into stopping the epidemic. We don't talk about it anymore, because the epidemic is over, thanks to the efforts of many dedicated people.
Now, we're facing another epidemic that is growing, and we need a similar effort to stop it, too. Once we do, then we'll stop talking about the Zika virus, as well.
So, yes, I do remember Ebola. It sounds like you do not remember it very well, though.

If so, you just might have influence enough for your 'call' to make an impact.

Murphy, Sanders and Democratic Senators Call on Appropriators to Fully Fund the Presidents $1.9 Billion Request to Fight Zika Outbreak
Friday, March 4, 2016
WASHINGTON, March 4 Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt) joined Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and 22 Democratic senators today in calling on the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee to fully fund President Obamas $1.9 billion emergency supplemental request to combat the Zika virus, while simultaneously maintaining the United States efforts to address other global health priorities, including Ebola.
In a letter addressed to the Chairmen and Ranking Members of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies and the U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs, the senators highlighted the urgency of the U.S. response to the Zika virus, but also emphasized that a concurrent commitment to ending the Ebola epidemic is equally critical and should not be undermined or neglected. The senators warned that reducing funding for Ebola research and treatment to address the Zika virus would compromise public health infrastructures and increase health risks worldwide.
We respectfully request that you fully fund the Presidents Fiscal Year 2016 emergency supplemental request of $1.9 billion to combat the Zika virus outbreak, without undermining ongoing efforts to address the Ebola epidemic. The World Health Organization projects the Zika virus could affect up to 4 million people in 2016, highlighting the urgency of a coordinated response to combat it. At the same time, the United States must continue to work with our international partners to confront a number of persistent and serious epidemics, including the Ebola virus that has caused more than 11,300 deaths since 2014, wrote the senators. Dramatically reducing funding for the Ebola account now, in order to fund efforts against this new threat, would increase health risks worldwide while also sending a troubling message about the U.S. commitment to ending the current epidemic and preparing for future outbreaks.
The letter was also signed by Sens. Ed Markey (D-Mass.), Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), Bob Casey (D-Pa.), Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), Jack Reed (D-R.I.), Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), Bill Nelson (D-Fla.), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), Gary Peters (D-Mich.), Al Franken (D-Minn.), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Chris Coons (D-Del.), and Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) signed the letter.
